Make sure you got a card that is compatible to your camera. In my case, I bought a new 512mb Fuji XD card to get the same "write error" message. I needed a type "H" but bought "M". I had to go to www.fujifilmusa.com to upgrade my camera to be compatible with the newer cards that are out now.

DEAR SIR, I HAVE C-150 WITH 16MB CARD. I WOULD LIKE TO UPGRADE THE MEMORY CARD. WHAT IS THE LIMIT AND WHICH CARD SHULD I PURCHASE IF SO.

The manual recommends "no more than 256mb"

>> Memory : xD-Picture Card (16 – 256MB)

Here's the manual (free download)
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/OLYMPUS/C-150-_E

Whilst Olympus made the xD card in sizes up to 2GB, the very large cards are not worth risking on three counts:
(1) Manual recommends max of 256MB (Although that might just have been the limit of production, when this camera was issued).
(2) Generally, multiple smaller cards give you more flexibility than one bit card (and they attract less of a premium).
(3) A 2GB card, if it worked, would store an infeasibly large amount of pictures on one card - it would be very hard to sort them, and you really would have "all your eggs in one basket" - remember that card, like any other magnetic media, can fail, especially over time.

So 256MB is plenty, and its an xD card (Distinguishable by its curved profile along one on the long sides).

Hope this helps.

Xd memory card

A card access error may indicate that an xD-Picture Card memory card is in a write-protected condition. xD-Picture Card memory cards have a special protection feature to ensure that your pictures are kept safe. NOTE: During this condition, you can still use the printer for printing and saving photos from the xD-Picture Card to a secure location, such as the computer hard drive. To resolve this error, try the following:
  • Reinsert the xD-Picture Card memory card into your camera and turn on the camera. In most cases, the camera automatically makes the necessary changes.
  • Reformat the xD-Picture Card memory card. See the documentation that came with your camera for instructions on reformatting the memory card. Note that this process erases the pictures currently saved to your memory card. To save these pictures, transfer them to the computer before reformatting the memory card. Once you reformat the memory card, transfer those photos back to the memory card using the computer.

XD-Picture Card

The xD-Picture card is the memory card where the D-390 stores the pictures. xD-Picture Cards come in a variety of sizes currently ranging from 16MB through 256MB. Larger capacity xD cards allow you to store more pictures.
