The things to check are 1 circuit breaker for outside unit...2 capacitor on on outside unit could be bad...if it is swollen or is oily it is bad...3 bad contactor ....if the inside unit is running there should be a buzzing noise on the outside unit..this would be the the contactor energized..if it is buzzing then 1 no power 2 bad capacitor.... if it is not buzzing 1 bad contactor 2 low freon pressure switch could be bad(was it coooling good before it quit coming on ) if yes then low freon will not be the problem 3 broke thermostat wires close to outside unit...

Heat pump compressor wont come on in heat mode, works fine in cool mode, we get heat occaisionally for about 2 min, then the compressor shuts off. it is a fridgedaire window unit.

Try setting the thermostat at a normal heat setting. By raising the temperature too high the unit thinks that the heat pump won't be effective and go into strip heat mode.

Air conditioner wont work

When the STOP indicator light turns on, the internal water tank has filled with condensed water and the air conditioner will turn off automatically. You can drain the internal water tank by removing the plug on the back of the unit, be ready for a lot of water to come out of the unit. The unit will shut down when the water pan is full. This condition may occur either when the unit is operated in high humidity conditions, or when the unit is being operated in HEATMODE, since the auto-evaporation function will not work in the heating mode. I hope this helps, have a great day, Andy K.

Getting an E1 error message..wont start

Hi,
1. Unplug unit. 2. Hold down power button while plugging in unit. It will do a short self-test and then beep. leaving unit off. 3. Release power button and unplug. 4. Plug in again and turn on normally. This should last for about 720 hours, at which point the E1 error will come back and you need to follow the procedure again. (You might as well clean the air filter at this point just in case it really needed it...)
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

MY WINDOW UNIT JUST STOPPED WORKING AND NOW IT IS READING E1. HOW DO I GET IT TO WORK AGAIN?

E1-Automatic filter clean reminder.

Turn the air conditioner OFF and unplug it. NOTE: The air conditioner must be unplugged for the automatic filter clean timer to reset.

Clean the filter. See the Care and Cleaning section in your use&care manual. After cleaning, replace the filter and plug the air conditioner back in.

A/c runs 1-2 hours then will not go back on for a day

Sounds like the unit is shutting of on thermal protection. Try removing it from the sleeve and take it outside. Wash it out good with a garden hose. If the problem persists, there is likely a problem with the refrigerant.

Air conditioner unit outside, fan not going but air is coming out of the vents. The thermostat is on 50 degrees. If it is shut off for a while and turned back on it will turn on but after and hour it will...

is the fan out side running when you are getting cool air? IF so check the out door coill is it clean, If not the fan could be over heating because it is pulling to hard. you should be able to feel the air 2' above the unit.

Air condition problem

An E1 error is automatically generated after the AC runs for so many hours to remind you to clean the filter. The manual says to clean filter and unplug unit, then plug unit back in and code will be reset.
