I have a Hitachi Projection TV (43FDX01B). It has a blue wave across the top to middle of the picture/screen. I suspec it may be some sort of bulb replacement. I do not have a user manual. Thank you

Its much more likely to be a convergence issue with the blue . Does writting appear sort of 3 D looking? The user manual I have for that model if you want to send a request to [email protected] I will email the user manual to you.

I have a 50inch DLP Hitachi that is 3 and a half years old. I replaced the bulb about 5 months ago now the blacks are blueish and it has a greenish blotch on the screen. It also leaves an image on the...

Contrary to popular belief, any display product can have "Image Retention" and even "Burn-In". This is true for Plasma, LCD, LCOS, DLP, and CRT. I do not see a model number provided, but I would bet that you have an LCD rear projection TV rather than a DLP projection TV. If this is the case, the Blueish and Greenish blotches you are seeing on the screen are the result of UV light damage. UV light will move heavily damage the Blue panel, due it's short wave length. So, bad Blue or Green (absence or Blue) is typically the the first visual indicator of a problem. Replacing the Light Engine will resolve the problem.

Images on screen have shadows

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

43fdx01b arc at top of screen

Usually this means convergence ic's have to be replaced and possibly a few resistors on small convergence board. Sometimes it requires digital alignment after new parts are soldered in. This repair can cost 175.00-375.00.

Digital Array?

Replace IK04 and IK05, both STK392-110, but use instead STK392-150's for greater reliability. And don't get some Chineese knock-offs - use original Sanyo replacements. If you don't know where to get those try ACME Enterprises in Florida,

Also measure the low ohm feed resistors in that circuit. However usually just replacing the convergence amps will restore normal video...
