HP R707 My camera when requiring the flash to opperate just says on the screen CHARGING FLASH and will not go any further , Flash will not work and no other functions will work ! you have to take the battery out to get it to work, it will work perfectly ok for day shots.......
I tried the paperclip solution above. I held the paperclip in for 10 seconds, inserted the battery & memory card back in, but the problem persisted. So I tried it again, but this time held the paperclip in for 40 seconds, reinserted the battery & memory card, waited about 10 seconds, then turned the camera on. This solved the problem!! Try holding in the paperclip for at least 40 seconds, rather than 10 seconds.

I've just spent 30 minutes on the phone (premium rate) to HP re this problem. The solution was as follows: switch the camera off take the battery and any memory cards out press the end of a paperclip into a small hole (which you can see with the battery compartment open) remove the paperclip after 10 seconds put the battery and memory card back in and the problem should be sorted. HP also suggest upgrading the camera firmware (which you can do via their website)

I commend eevie010166 for his/her solution. I followed the advice of all the previous posts and failed to revive the camera. After holding the paperclip down for 40 and more seconds, the camera is back to normal. Thank you!
Sincerely,
John Coffey

I have the same problem with my R707. After going through battery, charger pin pushing and all that wonderful stuff, the CS at HP suggested that it could be the the FLASH bulb and that there is no way to change this bulb hence it can not be fixed.

We have the same problem and were also told by HP that the problem is the battery. A new and fully charged battery failed to solve the problem. I tried the paperclip method in a previous post - that didn't work either. We noticed that this problem started after downloading the updated firmware issued in connection to the June 2006 recall involving firmware that controls the battery charging functions. Our camera was fine prior to that install.

I also have the HP R707 and have similar Flash problems. My camera will flash, but about half the time after using the flash, the camera locks-up... the only cure, like yours, is to remove the battery. And like yours, non-flash pictures are just fine. Having a strong charge on the battery probably helps, but I think it is probably a design problem.

See if the flash works fine when the camera is plugged into the charger? If so, it is likely that your battery is not holding a strong enough charge. Charge the battery overnight and see how it works. If that doesn't help, buy a new battery.

Got the same problem. Tried the pin trick, new battery... nothing helps.
Got the same problem. Tried the pin trick, new battery... nothing helps. I think HP should sort out the problem, its obviously a design fault, Im going back to my trusty OM1!!
what I did was that: when the camera was connected in to the computer, I opened the camera's folder I did format, and now the camera doesn't work at all so could you tell me or let me know if is possible to fix it up, or I have to buy a new one!!
sorry is not really a flash problem
thanks

I have the same problem, I tried all of the other methods described earlier, which did not help. I found only one way to prevent the "charging flash" lock up of my camera, which is to torn off the flash.
I'm havIng the same problem and just followed all of the suggestions. New battery fully charged and took out memory card, used the paper clip and put card and battery back into camera and it took 2 flash pictures, turned it off and now it will not turn back on. I have already had this camera replaced and have a feeling this is just a problem product. I have always been happy with HP products, but not this one.
I have a HP707. My problem is I can only scroll the pics one way{to the left when I want to view them}i in the camara> Any ideas???
I have a HP 707. When I want to view my pics in the camara they only scroll to the left. Right side does not move. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!
I have the exact same charging flash problem. I tried the paper clip suggestion and it didn't work. I'm starting to think it's time for a new camera.
