Question about Hitachi 53SDX89B 53" Rear Projection Television
I have a problem with my hitachi when i turn it on the red power light turns on but i get no picture or sound. has anybody experienced similar situation? im in the process of looking for a repair person but would like to know possible problems so i dont get ripped off. i have limited knowledge of electronics (enough to get myself in trouble) so i'm trying to get a feel of how common and difficult it is to repair a problem like that.
Luckyly here are tech that have knowledge of electronic,if you dont whant any boddie ripp you off, well this gonna help you. Definitively, your set have a short, in the power supply or in the horizontal circuit, with this in mind request to varius tech an estimate, and what, they think is the problem, then you can take a good decision...good luck

can i purchase myself and have repair person install? i want to pay them to install only in hopes of keeping the price down. if it was a do it yourself job i would do. thanks for the quick reply and i appreciate all the help.
just wanted to add that i solved the problem after reading alot i realized that transistor Q777 was going bad. i replaced it once and went bad again so i replaced QHo1 transistor and t753 transformer just in case and sure enough my tv has been running like a champ!
PS my tv did have sound but no picture and thanks to everybody who shared bits and pieces of information about this model that helped me put this puzzle together.
correction that was t752
Watching near perfect picture one day w/ family and poof... no picture (sound was run through receiver/surround sound). Red power button illuminates, but not enough juice to power set??? Checked Hitachi web site - found an authorized service center. They came out to my house, couldn't fix on site, so took the set back to their shop - 6 WEEKS AGO. The repair estimate they gave me was $600 USD. Now they can't figure out the problem. They ordered an "Integrated Circuit Regulator" (???), but they say the TV still is "shorting out" and they cannot isolate the 'short'. Now they want to "dispose" of the set for me, as they say it "will cost more to repair than it's worth" Will someone PLEASE HELP?! THANK YOU!
