Gogear can not be detected by Vista

My Philips GoGear SA3015 can not works with Microsoft Vista Home.
I have already tried the supplied CD, and download from their support web, but no good. It works on XP at the first time installation, though, but not on my vista laptop.
I assume it should works with vista since it is written on its box "compatible with Vista", but it doesn't in my case.
Is it a vista problem, or gogear problem?
thanks..

SOURCE: when i turn on the philips gogear it says philips, gogear, updating and then it jams

This player has an issue that the latest firmware fixes, re: constant freezing during updating. If you can just get the computer to recognize the player, and load the firmware update then you should be fine. The firmware update should load when you go to the "Update" button on the latest Device Manager (the version of the Device Manager from Philips' website, not from the install CD).

If the computer is not recognizing the player, then try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

SOURCE: How to use iTunes with a Philips GoGear MP3 player?

You have to convert the file from an aspple/aac audio file to an mp3 file. The easiest way to do this is to download a free audio/video converter like format factory from download.com, and you can easily convert the files to mp3's very quickly. You also have to be sure that your apple tracks are DRM free.

I have a philips gogear 8gb freezes up several times a hour

Unfortunately the GoGear HDD series is totally incompatible with Windows Vista and Windows Media Player 11. It will work for a while, and then behave exactly as you described. Solution: You will need to uninstall your GoGear software, rollback to Windows Media Player 10, reinstall the GoGear software, update the firmware on your player, and even then the damage may already be done (IMO, it is more trouble than this player is worth). You can read about the warnings on Philips website.

My GoGear 30GB is not charging.

If your GoGear really is an HDD model, then it is incompatible with both Vista and Windows Media Player 11. If you have Vista, forget about this player. If you have XP, roll back your Windows Media Player to version 10 and try running a Repair in Philips Device Manager - the damage might already be done, but it is worth a shot.

If you have an SA model GoGear, get the latest Philips Device Manager from www.usasupport.philips.com. Make sure you enter your correct model # in the website, or you will damage your player. Run an Update in the updated Philips Device Manager to upgrade the firmware to fix the freezing issue. Philips has a weird quirk that if you want to really upgrade the firmware, you have to also update the Philips Device Manager first or the Device Manager from the CD will give you a false positive: "Your device is already up to date."

Philips gogear

Windows XP has a native driver that will work - if your computer is not recognizing the device, then unplug the GoGear from computer, turn your GoGear off, and hold in the volume+ button. Reconnect the GoGear to your computer while still holding the volume+ button. After 5-50 seconds, Windows should say Found Hardware Wizard and will load/reload the needed drivers.

Otherwise, you may have to reinstall the installation CD (does not work with Vista) - it has a key component called Philips Device Plug-In which needs to be reloaded.

Sync

Did you run the installation CD that came with the GoGear? (if you have Windows XP)
Grab the installation software from the Philips website (if you have Windows Vista)

If this was done, then:
1) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) - if you don't see it, then re-run the installation CD or grab the "Device/Firmware Manager" from the Philips website
2) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
3) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off (if you haven't done so already) - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

You will now be able to load the firmware upgrade by clicking on the update tab in Philips Device Manager. The firmware upgrade should resolve the issue permanently.

Some problems

Try downloading the more recent version of the HDD1830 software at the Philips website - www.usasupport.philips.com

Also, you can try both a Repair and an Update through Philips Device Manager: (Warning - both processes will delete all files form your GoGear)
