Troubleshooting error message 79 00FE on LaserJet 8000N
We have a LaserJet 8000N. Could anyone please tell me what error message 79 00FE means? I tried calling Hp by they said they don't know what the code means and would have to send someone out..yada yada yada. Which I find it quite hard to believe that they don't keep track of error messages and their meanings, I mean after all, didn't they make them. My apologies, I just had to vent about that. Again any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanx much.

Ok, I am a bit rusty with this printer as its been a while since I have worked on them. If memory serves me right, this error is related to the JetDirect Card. It may have to be replaced. I hope my memory serves me well. As I recall, this was a pain for me to find out as well. HP is usually good, but not always. I had to discover the problem on my own. Also, remove the card and reseat it! This has worked for me in the past as well. Perhaps you have another printer - same model. Remove its card and test it on the erroring printer.

This error indicates that the sensor that detects when too much paper is stacked in the output bin to allow more paper to exit. This flag sometimes sticks and a quick check is to make sure that nothing has become jammed where the paper exits the printer. Most common cause is the flag getting jammed because someone has remove the paper the wrong way. I have never seen the actual sensor fail.
8000N is older printer and likely has small amount of memory in comparision to newer units. If it prints basic small PDF fine but balks at printing larger jobs, that is likely the issue. Newer versions of Acrobat might also cause issues. Did you recently upgrade to reader 9 or 10?
Error 82.0180 means that the JetDirect Firmware is corrupted. Refer to your manual how to cold reset the JD (JetDirect) card. JetDirect card enables network printing. If problem persist after cold reset, you may need to purchase a new JD card or bring your printer to HP service center for repair.
