Timing and noise

I'm having two interesting (read as frustrating) problems with my UA-4FX. When I record and then playback, the sound is distorted. There are pops from the bassier notes and it sounds like the whole thing is being played on a stretched tape. As if a modulation effect were being applied. However, when I export to Wav and play it back through my soundblaster it's fine. The other problem is more serious. When I record a track, it comes out at a slightly different speed to the original. Thus, when I record subseguent tracks, I have to stretch them to fit. Also, during playback, you see the marker in Sonar getting progessively further and further behind what you're hearing. I've tried removing the drivers using the Roland removal tool and then re-installing. I've also tried re-profiling it. I've checked all the setting in Sonar options and they are as the manual says they should be. Hope someone can help, it's taking me three times as long to record my demos than it should.

I have the same problem and I've loaded the program on 3 of my computers and its giving me the same problem. All I can think of it that its got to be the Device Itself.

The different speed thing might be rellated to sample rates. if your recording the track on one sample rate and playing it at another. it will come out faster or slower

I own the same audio interface (UA-4FX). Ive had these similar problems but i figured it out. In regards to your first question... make sure that all of your effects are turned off. you probably have the "fx voice" and "amp drive" on. If thats not the case, the best solution is what Tubularburn wrote. To your second question... Make sure the buffer size in the software is set correctly. If youre using Sonar LE, go to "Options> Audio" and tweek the "buffer size" until the other tracks play at normal speed. If that doesnt work, then "im sorry pal, im all out of answers" I hope I helped! Even just a little. Good Luck!

I have a 1212 card a similar sound as you described was produced. With the 1212 you have the option (assume the UA-4FX is similar)of internal or external sync (by device eg ADAT/ S/PDIF) or multiple frequency selection 44.1K/48K etc. If any of these options are not optimized for your particlar data the described signal degredation can occure. Good luck, check your defaults and options settings. N Temp

That's usually caused by problems with the usb port on your computer. The best solution would be to buy an PCI USB CARD that you would use only for your UAFX4.

Outgoing noise from USB port on my UA-4FX

probably not the USB cord because the chances of a faulty USB cord are slim, and I think it's the computer or the input/output chord.

Sound driver?

try going to control panel- sounds and audio devices, audio tab, and look for the default playback device.

do you have other options there, besides what it's currently set to?

this is windows xp, correct?

also, on the volume control window, try going to options in the top left, and then properties.

Make certain that you have PLAYBACK selected, not recording, and then make certain that "show the following volume controls" has all the boxes checked.

No sound out from input

It's probably your computer, more specifically the type of application you're running it on/in. Also, when you install or fiddle with the settings, you have to be careful because it can be so confusing fixinfg them.
