Canon printer "ink absorber almost full"

My printer keeps coming up with "ink absorber almost full" and my undertanding is that once it is supposedly full then my printer is essentially rendered useless, are there any recent resets that will fix this as i have tried the old one posted from a while ago to no avail. Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good printer that has been excellent due to this. Thanks in advance.

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2012

I tried it several times today when it came up with the error and wouldn't let me print.
Sadly it didn't work for me.
I rang Canon and they advised that if the printer is under warranty(1yr) then they will replace the ink absorber at no cost. Thanks again for the reply and i hope this helps people out there. Cheers

These are the instructions which worked for me on my Canon pixma mp470:

1) Close the print head cover, and turn off the printer. While pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press the Power button. (Do not release the buttons. The LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)

2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (Do not release the Power button.)

3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button three times, and then release the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.) During initialization, the LED blinks in green.

4) When the LED stops blinking and lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button the 4 times. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

5) Press the Power button. The LED lights in green, and the
selected function is performed. (When the operation completes, the printer returns to the menu selection mode automatically.)

SOURCE: White stripes down my page.

Make sure that the corona wire is clean (use a dry bristle haired artists paint brush or use the cleaning pad supplied with the printer) and making sure that the toner cart cleaner / scraper is not clogged or has some paper jammed on it. Also you can vacuum the Corona Wire with a domestic vac and the nozzle tool or a clean soft brush tool but make sure the printer is turned off before doing it.

Empty waste ink absorber IP4000

Ink Absorber Replacement Options This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Here's the link

So what they are saying more or less is throw out the printer because it's going to cost more to replace the absorber than to just buy a new printer.

If you ak me it's just another way these printer companies screw customers. Just my opinion.
Sorry about the bad news but at least you have your answer.

My cannon iP 2000 keeps that waste ink well is full how do I repair this

No repair is available. There is a little tray under where the cartridges rest and when the printer does a cleaning cycle, it squirts some ink into it. Eventually, the ink builds up and when the tray is full, it's time to change printers. Here is what Canon says:
