I have a Sampo flatscreen tv model LME-17S3 with manufacture date 2003 Serial no. 33211105782 When i turn it on, the picture lasts only a few seconds then goes black. The sound is fine. It repeats this every time I turn it off then back on with the picture lasting only a second or two. What do I need to do to repair this? I would prefer fixing it on my own. Is it worth it to repair it at all? Thank you. - Ruben

Hello Sir Ruben,

Before we start our session I would like to thank you for using our site (FIXYA) and choosing my service out of many experts here..

If your question is,,It is worth to repair?the answer is yes..

That problem is very common on LCD TV..As a TV tech for 5 years I already encounter that problem many times so I can easily determine the problem only on visual situation so you don't need a multimeter to diagnose the faulty parts..

OK let's start by following the procedure below:

  1. Power ON the TV.
  2. Look at the screen if have a stable back-light even no picture..
  3. If you can't see back-light try to unplug the TV while you look at the screen..If you have back-light you should see a flicker light comes out on screen (very fast flash).
  4. If you see the light like what I said on #3..Your problem is on T-CON board.I can't see your T-con board online so its better if you get the part # for specific parts and easy access the board online.
  5. If you can't find the T-CON board..some of LCD TV specially 17" TV and below the T-con board is usually built in the main board.
Look sample picture of main board (part # QPWB11378-1G-4) below:

6. If your TV doesn't have back-light the problem is on the inverter board (part # QPWBGL957IDG-1).

This is the sample picture:

Hope it helps..

Regards,
Chester.

We had Sampo LME-26X8 LCD get snow at screen when is go TV & VCR or DVD please tell me what wrong Thanks

Check connections to make sure they are tight. If using coaxial cables especially.

Most likely, you have routed through your VCR and it is causing snow even when turned off.

I have a sampo 17s3 and the power button turnd on green, hen gos out,on then of, on then off and so on, what gives?

This could be a bent pin or bad controller board inside. Check for bent pins on the connector.

also check inside and see if the solder joint did not give way due to heat if so redo them.

Do not give totally up on this device as it can be fixed for under $45 bucks.

V-Chip code. How do I reset this code if code was forgotten?

V-Chip passcode for LME-17S3
The passcode is 8 4 8 4 100. Then press MENU to highlight the ON or OFF mode. Change it to OFF mode to completely disable it. In the ON mode, change any B to a U to unblock.

I've lost the remote and need to switch from "over the air" to cable mode.

Best to have the original remote. Remotes.com seems to be the only people selling the original remote. Not cheap though.
Here's the link:

I believe this is the only way to solve the problem.
