The rings that lift are what allows the ICs pins to be soldered into the circuit if the rings have lifted or are missing the set will not operate. It sounds as if you have a Mitsubishi with the 22 error code. Fixing the rings that lifted and double checking the pins to be sure none are bridged together with solder.

I have an Apex pf3230 32" TV that recently shut off, no power besides a slight clicking noise. The noise seems to be coming from a large component with a solid copper band about 3/4" wide... on said...

The short circuit protection circuit inside the set; detects a short circuit [shorted component/s]. The circuit shuts down the set; to prevent further damage to components. That is happening here. The sound you hear is from a cut of relay; which in turn switches off the set. Contact any service technician to detect the fault. Never switch the TV "ON"; until this fault has been rectified. It might make things worse. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Philips 47MF437B Hi, this Tv will all turn for about 1-3 minutes then shut down. Any suggestions? Thanks

The tv is shutting down due to overload exerted on it by the components on a particualr voltage line. Possible locations are power supply board or the main audio/video board. The first thing you should check for are faulty capacitors on the two board. Look for capacitors that are swollen or cracked at the top. Even tiny holes at the top mean that the capacitor is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I Have a Hitachi 42EDT41 and there is no sound and no video. I just put a new Power Supply in (@$90 delivered) and now I get a red standby light in front panel , when I turn it on the standyby light goes...

Hi.

If there is no power at all, then it is either the power cord or power board inside the TV.

If after the fault the TV went in standby and does not wake up, then the TV has gone on protect mode after detecting a fault.
When this happens higher voltages are shut down to prevent further damage.
The clicking noise you hear is a protection switch that prevents the TV from starting.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Check to see that the fuse is good. If so, test power supply. It is common for these to go out..

TV will not power on.

I guess your TV is DLP.
Please notice the follow symthoms:
When you on TV, did you hear some strange noise from the back of the TV. If yes, the color wheel needs replacing.
If no, check the lamp. Take a look to bottom of lamp, you will see white pot or sometime a pop up there due to lamp cycle is going to end. When changing lamp, check the ballast and power sup, too. If you see caps are poping up. Pull out those board and replace the poped caps.
