Installation Error I recently bought a new computer (HP Pavilion a1540n) with Windows XP Media Center Edition. My printer was working fine with my previous computer but when I try to install it on my new PC, it tells me that a newer software update is available and proceeds to install the update automatically. Then I get an error saying that I have a hardware failure or that the hardware is not working properly. I then try to update the drivers and it tells me that the driver installed is the most recommended. If I change it anyway then I get a driver error. I would greatly appreciate any help an support with this issue.

Hi there Even if you changed the computers name chances are that won't sort the problem, it sounds to me like a bad install in the first place. I would go with the re-install of the operating system. You can call your computer whatever you want most people use their name, for example "yourname-PC". Make sure that the disk and the lens is clean.
According to information provided by the manufacturer, this model HP printer requires Windows 2000, Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional in order to function. Apart from the obvious cosmetic changes and some extra added functionality, Windows XP Media Center Edition may be treated as basic Windows XP in many instances. As such, this printer should be compatible with your computer. Please keep in mind however, that you may need to perform driver and software updates in order to guarantee functionality.

There is option in BIOS called something about automated SATA recognition or similar - disable it. It is under System configuration. And if you are putting new drive in then run full test from BIOS (Hard drive selftest - takes about 79min.) I tried to reinstall Windows Media center on my HP dv6000 because my previous hdd crashed - When I put in installation cd - it said that it can't find hdd. I spent week to figuring that out. The thing is - as far as you haven't disabled that SATA thing in BIOS - PC doesn't recognize hdd. But only with Windows media center edition. With all other windows xp - there is no such problems. Strange.
