Hello just got a Netbook Pro off of ebay. I put batteries in and charged it and it won't start up when I open it. Nor does it start by pressing escape. Soft reset does nothing. Hard reset brings up the Netbook Pro splash screen and a status bar suggesting Os is being loaded. When the status bar ends the machine just shuts off again and once again cannot be restarted by opening or (esc) Key. Please advise. Thanks in advance!
Go to netBookPro boot menu as follows:
Whilst the splash screen comes up insert a paperclip in the tiny reset hole near the enter key, then press Ctrl + D +Esc(On).
Now the netBookPro boot menu should come up, then select the option :
!) Clean start main OS (just press Shift +1).
Now you should get a reboot with the initial OS-settings.
I experienced the same problem after running xclkcfg.exe (an overclock utility for the Sigmarion III ) so best stay away from this utility.
have fun Rob.

Remove main battery and try again, if no! have the power adapter checked for correct voltage, if okay! the DC jack in the laptop is a common source of trouble, at this point it must be dismantled down to the mother board level and checked, I recommend a pro to address the situation.
If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems.
1. The battery itself is dead.
2. the battery bay is loose
3. the battery itself is loose
Hope this helps...
Please try removing battery for a moment (getting cold) and install it again, don't forget to connect charger, after the charge is completed try to turn it on, if there's no motherboard failure the computer should work normally, but if not, maybe you have a "fried" motherboard that needs to be replaced.
To speedup your netbook follow these steps;
1. Remove if any apps in the 'startup' (like instant messaging, dictionary, world clock openoffice etc (just remove it from the startup folder) Make sure programs like these are not starting up
when you boot up else your netbook will feel slow.
2. Be sure that you are running your spyware and virus scanners are
working, updated, and have
fully scanned your system. These malicious
pieces of software can slow down a fast system.
They will wreck the
speed on your netbook if you aren't careful.
3. One upgrade that you can do to your system that is cheap and easy to do
on your own is to add
RAM. It's best to maximize your netbook's RAM for
4. Uninstall unwanted or heavy load softwares.
5. Don't have open programs that you aren't using minimized. If you aren't
going to use a program,
shut it off. Try to only have a few
programs open at once.
6. Use cloud based applications. These are software that you can use that
are being processed on
a server versus your machine. This is a better
way to multitask on your netbook.
7. Consider adding Linux or buying a Linux netbook versus a Windows
netbook. Typically the Linux
netbooks do run much faster as they are
designed to take up less resources making your
netbook run much faster.
8. Delete temp files.
9. Running heavy loaded softwares will make the battery hot, that way the battery life is shortened which causes a slow running netbook.
Hope this helps.

This has several possibilities. Always start with the user manual to see if the blinking light has a listed code.
Possibly your adapter is faulty. There are most likely cheap replacements available on ebay or similar sites. If you have a friend with the same model netbook, you can attempt to charge theres with your adapter. If their's charges, then it is not the adapter.
It could also be a dead battery. Depending on your brand and model, you might be able to find a replacement on ebay. Again, if you can remove the battery and have a friend with the same model, you can test the battery in that netbook. Otherwise, take it to a repair shop.
Finally, and most likely, the ac power jack may have been knocked out of place. That will require a repair person or someone who knows how to solder. You may need to order the part (again, try ebay) and have someone fix it.
Hope that helps.
If this is the original Psion NetBook (not the Pro) then you are stuck with the OS you have.
I would remove both the OS/RAM DIMM and the extra RAM DIMM if you have it, as well as removing the CF card. Make sure they are all clean and dry. Take the battery off too. You then need to leave the netbook open, with the CF card slot open in an airing cupboard or other warm dry place for 24 hours. Leave the battery in there too.
Once everything appears dry again, put it all back together and it should work. If not, you'll have to send it off for repair. There are still some ex-Psion engineers in the UK doing netbook repairs, have a look on the pdaforums for addresses.
Hope you get it fixed!
