My Akai DVDRW120 DVD+RW recorder modified with code free PAL/NTSC playback that was manufactured in Feb. 2004 does not open its tray when the eject button is pushed on the recorder or remote control. What can I do to fix this? I dont want to send the unit back to Akai for repair. Thanks.
I am pursuing the exact problem above. I have found a not so hi tech solution. I firmly rap on the top above the disc drawer. This is while Close is being displayed and the drawer is in. If you hear some spinning and load displays it should now work. It may be back to cycling again on the next ejection though. Technically I figure it may be a sticky magnetic reed switch or what ever they use to detect the drawer position. Mine displays either open or close when it starts to cycle.

When you push the open buttom its try to open? or do nothing, any way remove the cover, and give a little push to the tray, when press the open button, listen to motor noisese, are tere? if yes, have a broke driver part, if nothing happen then you need a tech, have a damage driver circuit...good luck

If you know how to access the region code, then I suggest you give it the code for "0" then you will not need to change it again. It should play back all.
follow this steps and fix it. Merry Christmas.
Turn on your DVD player.
2
Open the DVD player's main drive, also commonly called the DVD "tray." The region cannot be changed while a DVD is in the machine, so many DVD players require the tray to be open as an extra precaution.
3
Push "Info" or "Setup" on your remote.
4
Use the remote to select the "Region" option as indicated on your TV screen.
5
Select "Region 9" to change the system to multiregion formatting. Regions 1 through 8 represent specific geographic locations and will not allow multiregion playback.
DVD player region-free codes. The DVD player can play both NTSC,and PAL.Play all NTSC DVD this format is in US,Canada,Mexico.PAL DVD format is in Europes,Asia, and Middle East.
If you got the video recorder in another country you need to check to see what it uses to scan NTSC or PAL because Kuwait is a Country taht uses PAL and if you have a vcr that uses NTSC it will not play those cassettes. Let me know where you got your camcorder from if its not on this list maybe i can find out for sure if it is NTSC or PAL. Here is a list of some countrys that use NTSC and PAL
