I have had the camera for a little while now. but the camera started doing it a little after the warrenty went out. what it does is when i power the camera on it will stay on for only a few seconds then a blue screen comes up and says low battery then it powers off. i can keep turning it on over and over and it does the same thing. i have tried all differnt type of batteries. tried someone's rechargeable ones. and all kinds of differnt AA ones bought from the store. i have even taken the camera apart just to see if anything looked out of line or burnt on the chip board and nothing looked wrong. can someone please help me.

I put in new batteries in but 5 mins later it says low battery and turns itself off.

I have the same problem. Canon support claims they have never had this problem before, but it is all over the Internet. I won't be buying another Canon for the support, although the camera is sweet.

I have tested everything I can see including the batteries and there's nothing wrong with the batteries.

However, when I eyeball the height of the batteries, I see that one is lower than the others. So I assume that this connection is not as solid as the rest and may be why low battery indicator shows even when the batteries are testing fully charged.

On the SX20 you can't bend down the terminals at the top, so you have to reach in to the bottom and bend the contacts on the short battery up. I believe that this is just a temporary solution because it doesn't fix my camera permanently.

But try it. It is a free fix and can't hurt.

Canon A710IS Battery Drains Quickly

I have the same problem too. It's just started happening. The camera is about 3 years old. I've cleaned the battery contact points with an eraser and ensured there's contact. All seems fine. I only get about 5 shots out of brand new AA batteries, then a black screen with message 'change the batteries'. Can anyone help?

New batteries are not accepted

put batteries in very carefully - not bouncing them in. If you get the 'change the batteries message' then open the battery cover turn the camera a little gently to reposition the batteries and hopefully it should go away. Test your charger too ... is it charging? is it the same thing with non-rechargeable batteries?remember Batteries don't work well when cold this could cause the camera to shutdown. It might also be that the auto shut down setting is too short unless it is shutting down while you are actually shooting.make sure you are using the correct battery type and match.clean the contacts in the battery compactment.hope this helps
