Different manufacturers place the serial number in different locations - usually along the frame somewhere (bottom rail on left or right side side, under seat, etc. If you can reply with year, make & model I can see If I can find exact location for you
You've got an exactly 1964 gun, Karen. The changeover year for Winchester. They retooled most of their guns that very year to cut expenses on some or to make for easier manufacturing on others. When folks talk about "pre 64 Winchesters", they mean guns made up to the year 1963 that used diff parts and had diff levels of finishing etc. In 64, Winchester started the new model 94 at serial number 2,700,000 and they went to 2,797,000 or so that first year.
The "vin number" for consumer use is located in front of the driver under the windshield viewable through the glass. The other consumer locations are on a sticker on the drivers door and on the vehicle option list on the sticker on one of the removable plastic panels in the rear of the van.Your van also has 3 hidden locations used for vehicle recovery in cases of theft etc.Hint, want to find those numbers? Start scraping off sound deadener and seam sealer and look deep into all frame openings.
Call your dealer with the first five figures in the number (3J5-00...,4XJ-01...,275-02...,etc) The dealer can look up on a microfiche exactly what year and model you have.Make sure the engine and frame numbers are the same(Yamaha does this) or you may have a motor from a different year.
This is where the serial number is located, look here.
