I have downloaded 2 files for my Epson photo 870 an epson 10062 and epson 10063 both zip files.
When I use the 10062 the red lines are much less apparent? I did do a "TEST SHEET" and by the end of the print job the red was gone?
I have read where it is the print head it self and that cleaning may work as well. I just wanted to post this to see if anyone else has tried using a different Epson driver install? to fix this red line thingy Thanx

Re: Epson 1280 red lines on photo
One of the best possible solution that we can suggest is to run a cleaning cycle for three times. Just to make sure that cleaning is effective please try the step below:
1. Using your computer go to printer utility.
2. Click on Maintenance then select Head Cleaning. Head cleaning usually took 1 minute.
3. Once the Head Cleaning is done Print a nozzle pattern to check whether the head cleaning is effective or not.
Repeat those steps for 3 times. If the nozzle pattern after 3 cleaning cycles still bad. Reseat ink cartridge if possible replace the ink cartridges.
After all those steps and issue still present printer needs to be in service.

The ink jet printers have ink absorbing pads to catch and accumulate ink used to clean the printheads. The counter on MB counts number of head cleanings and printer startups (at every start up the heads are cleaned) and at preset number of cleaning alerts the operator that "printer needs maintenance" and sets the red light. You probably need a change ink absorbing pads (or wash them and dry 'em up) and then make a reset the count using printer Service Utility (can be downloaded from the web). To get to the ink absorbing pads is not easy - you need to remove the printer case - I am not familiar with 1280, but I did that on Epson 3000 & 5000 printers. In many cases the pads are actually OK , but the MB reaches the count and flags the pads.
Suggestion: Open up the "hood". All the way on the right side of the top of the plastic case, you'll see a large switch. Switch it up from "0" to "1". This will give the paper a little more room and might help.
Go on line and down load this utility
When program is installed- double click on the the icon in the lower task bar and select the printer type. Then right click on the icon in the lawer task bar- there you will see a range of tool to manipulate the printer ink system- try -reset black.
