Question about Lexmark T644 Laser Printer
We have 3 trays. Tray1 & 3 are 500 sheet drawers. Tray 2 is 250 sheet drawer. Previous problems with 2 chq forms being pulled from tray 2 when printing and jam occurs. Trays 1 & 3 never have problems. Today we had tray 2 jam - starts printing on one chq form but for some reason a second form gets pulled thru behind and jam occurs. Now there is an error message that 'Tray 2 Missing' but it is in place and the guides are properly in place. thank you. Fran
If job prints from the wrong tray or on the wrong paper or specialty media, this is an indication that the operator panel menu settings do not match the media loaded in the tray. Make sure the Paper Size and Paper Type specified in the printer driver match the paper size and type in the tray. For further assistance, please contact Lexmark Technical Support

Few things check, first if the paper trays have manual adjustable levers that tell the printer what type of paper is in the tray. The other option is to go to your printer menu from your operating system and check paper assginment on settings.

There are at least three possible solutions. The first two are simple the third is fairly complicated unlr=ess you can read a hex dump of a print file. 1) Use the front panel "Paper Menu" to select the tray. 2) Check the driver settings to make sure the driver is set to "Auto" or the correct tray. 3) Set the driver to "Print to File". When prompted to name the print file, name it "tray_fail". If you do not know how to read this file, send it to me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to take a look at it and see I I can correct the problem. Don

SOURCE: I have a Lexmark T632
There are two drawer file cabinets that you can get at Walmart, Office Depot, or Staples. If they're not wide enough, you can get a piece of formica or plywood to extend the top surface area. If you get lucky, you might find a file that will be wide enough. I use a file cabinet for mine, and it's really handy.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps make your boss happy!

go to Menu, reports, and print out the top report.
This will show you what the printer sees as the default tray, and what paper size and type are set for each tray.
If you have plain paper in each tray, make sure that the setting page also shows that each tray is set to letter, plain.
This printer sets the tray type automatically, based on the way the tray is set. There are little tabs on the side of the tray that change as you change the size of the paper with the paper guides.
If the paper guide is set even one click off, this can cause the printer to read the paper size incorrectly, and thus will not change to the next tray. ( if it thinks that tray 2 is A4 paper, but you are printing letter, it will not change to tray 2).
if the trays ARE set correctly, but the printer is still reading it wrong, then there could be something wrong with the sensor ( metal fingers and switch ) inside the printer.
