Hi jimmyjames, How do you have the wires hooked from the sony reciever to the inputs on the mtx? Sounds like your Remote wire is way too big. it should be 14 guage. It only sends a low voltage low amp signal. Another thing that could be messing up the sounds is the routing of the wires. you should have the power supply wires separate from the Audiop signal wiring. Power should run down the Driver side and Audio down the passenger side. When you answer I may be able to tell you more.
SOURCE: is it enough
Audiobahn subs are not too powerful and they can not handle too much continuous RMS, be careful they will heat up and tear off the voice coils off ur subs. run about 100 - 150 RMS at 75 HZ to each sub and keep the gains at about 3/4 this way you will avoid blowing out your subs. It also depends on the amp? What kind of amp is it? Let me know if you wish. Otherwise

If your television is going into standby when you are manually pressing the power button, that means your television is in safe mode. Your remote will not help you in most instances when this happens. If you heard a pop of some sort that is not good, if there was no noise then unplug the TV for an hour or so to let it reset it self. If that does not fix it you need some service work done on it.
SOURCE: Amp getting really hot
Disconnect the speaker wires and the RCA jacks from the amp.
If it still gets hot, the amp needs to be repaired.
If it doesn't get hot, check the impedance of the speakers and make sure they're wired properly.
If they are wired for the proper impedance, check each voice coil with an ohm meter to make sure none of the voice coils are shorted.

RMS(power) = peak(power) * .707
find the peak power of your amp and use the above formula
It will have enough power to do so.
