Question about NEC MultiSync FE991SB 19" CRT Monitor
After leaving my monitor on for only a few minutes now, the entire screen will shrink down to about one pixel high and max width. This band of visibility is incredibly bright and used to be remedied by giving my monitor a swift whack to the top or either side. Now the only way to remedy it is to turn it off for about two minutes and turn it back on, giving me another 5-10 minutes of viewing pleasure. Prior to this problem, the screen would shrink maybe 100 or 200 pixels on either vertical edge, distorting or cutting off that area completely. This problem was also fixed with a solid thump. Monitor is only about 3 or 4 years old... so I wouldn't expect this to happen. My hunch is a loose wire somewhere on the inside. I've fiddled with everything I could find in the monitor menu and video card (which I've ruled out since it can be remedied by whacking) Any help would be outstanding, as I don't really feel like dropping the money on a new monitor just yet.
YOU HAVE LOST THE HORIZONTAL SWEEP. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND CARE MUST BE EXERCISED AS THIS IS A SECTION WITH HIGH (LETHAL!) VOLTAGES SO IF YOU ARE NOT A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN YOU SHOULDN'T MESS WITH IT. MOST HORIZ SWEEP TROUBLES RESULT FROM FAILED HORIZONTAL OUTPUT TRANSISTOR/RELATED COMPONENTS. QUITE OFTEN SOLDER CONNECTIONS ON THIS TRANSISTOR OR THE FLYBACK TRANSISTOR ARE THE CAUSE, AND INTERNAL FAILURE OF COMPONENETS IS ALSO COMMON. A CAN OF "COMPONENT COOLER" OR OTHER SPRAY MAY BE USED TO "HIT" THE PARTS AND ALSO A HEAT GUN IN THE SAME MANNER TO ISOLAT THERMAL PROBLEMS. CAREFULL SOLDER TOUCH-UPS IN THE HORIZ. AREA ARE ALSO IN ORDER. HOPE THAT THIS HELPS. REGARDS, DAVE, SYSTEMATIC ADVANTAGE INC. 540-635-6060
