Black and white dvd playback

There are a few possible reasons why you may be experiencing black and white video when playing DVDs on your Syvania SSD803 DVD/VCR combo. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check the video settings on your TV. Make sure that the TV is set to display color and that the correct video input is selected.
2. Check the cables. Make sure that the cables connecting the DVD/VCR combo to the TV are securely plugged in and that they are in good condition. If the cables are damaged or loose, they may cause the video to be distorted or not display at all.
3. Check the DVD/VCR combo. Make sure that the DVD/VCR combo is set to output color video and that all of the connections are secure. If the DVD/VCR combo is not set to output color video or if the connections are loose, it may cause the video to be displayed in black and white.
4. Check the DVD. Make sure that the DVD itself is in good condition and that it is compatible with the DVD/VCR combo. If the DVD is damaged or is not compatible with the DVD/VCR combo, it may cause the video to be displayed in black and white.

If you are trying to use the player and switch between DVD and VCR there is usually a button on the front of the player and a matching one on the remote.
VCRs are becoming very rare now so most TVs don't have the connectors for them. How old your TV is will control how you do this. Older HD TVs are fitted with a SCART connector, ( a large, chunky, rectangular connector with lots of pin holes), or RCA connectors, (3 round pin connectors coloured red, white and yellow).
*Note* Make sure you use the 'OUT' connectors on the VCR and the 'IN' connectors on the TV.
Some newer TVs will let you connect through a 'screw in' Satellite/'CABLE TV wire connector.

Some inputs on tvs won't process the color signal. Try one of the other inputs. Mine does the same. If u have already used the working ones on something else, U will need a switch to select one or the other available at Radio Shack if u can find one.

On these combo units, the VCR will not play using component cables but the dvd's will play just fine.

What you need to do is run a pair of composite (Yellow, red and white) cables and use that for VCR and component (Green, blue, red, white and red) for the dvd player.

Make sure you switch the tv to the corresponding input.

I think you may need an RF Modulator. This device will have connections for the DVD and TV and will have a channel 3/4 switch. Good luck to you.

Try turning on component (cable) for the V2 input  on your TV

Use a scart lead to connect it to the TV, that should cure it.

clean the head of your vcr if that does not work then you will have to call in the tech to look into your problems goood luck.it is probably the color circuit
