Sony DVD player reads NO DISC when there IS a disc

Use a SCART lead from TV to DVD player!

It means the machine has gone into diagnostic mode - unplug for more than 30 sec if it still persists take it in for service or open casing to see if there is a cd stuck inside

E26 means the tray can not open. There could be a cd stuck inside

Your pick up or lenz needs cleaning then your dvd player will be able to read your DVD. Please buy a good DVD cleaner.

This may be caused by one or two causes. The laser pickup assembly is bad or the most common failure for DVD and CD players is the spindle motor. This motors bushings fails over time and does not spin the disc at the right speed so the unit times out. You can repair the by purchasing what sony calles the Mech Assembly it comes with new laser and stepper motor as well as the Spindle motor.

After variety of different tests and findings I have resolved this issue. It appears that the DVD burner was not in good working order and the DVD player was not at fault. Thanks you to all who answered and responded to my problem. Many thanks.

can you hear the motor spinning because it might just be a little belt that has broken or come off

Unplug/replug the player - try again.
Also, get a firmware upgrade disc from Sony's website to try and reload the firmware.
