Dishwasher door latch

My dishwasher door is closed and stuck. Something in the latch mechanism seems to have broken and I cannot open the door. The lever/latch located in center and underneath the console feels loose and not completely attached. How do I open the door?

How do you disassemble the door to get the door opened? The door latch lever is loose and floating around and not attached to whatever it needs to be to open the door. My dishes are being held hostage. Help!

same problem here and with the door locked I can't get the dishwasher out either.

I had the same problem. A repair man had to come over today and pry it open with a crowbar. I now have to replace the handle and control panel - about a $250 repair.

I just had this problem (or should I say, finally had the time to deal with it). Google searches revealed different ways to get the door open including repairmen with crowbars (causing replacement of the entire control assembly $$$), having to back out the top screws that hold the dishwasher in place (and to the top of the counter) with pliers, then moving the dishwasher out from the counter.

Nuts to all that.

First things first. Turn OFF the power to the dishwasher.

I wound up on my back first watching how the handle moved and which side seemed to be loose, in my case the right side was moving freely. After first trying to hold the handle in the "down" position with a springhook (to no avail) I wound up biasing the handle to the right (with a screwdriver inserted on the left side of the handle) while moving the handle in the "operate" direction. Suddenly (and without warning) the entire handle assembly moved to the right and created an opening that made it simple to stick a screwdriver up to operate the latch manually.

Four screws later the control panel was out, the offending broken handle assembly was in my hands to discover that they could have easily made the little tabs the hold the handle in place a whole lot sturdier, but let's not go there...

If I had to do the whole thing again it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to open it up I'm sure. Now to simply order the part and install it when it arrives. The best part is we can still run the dishwasher until it gets here!

Wow!! 30 seconds later it's open. Have to say I am not impressed with Kitchen Aid or any of the other Whirlpool products. I have an Amana stove, the digital display fell out and a Maytag stove whose shelves are falling apart. Why should we buy American?

I push start and my dishwaher wont turn on. I have checked the other buttons and they work. I also turned off my breaker to see if that will help and it still doesn't turn on,

either:
  1. something blocks the door from latching or closing. Check, if anything is stuck behind a dishrack. try reversing lower rack. check if the door aligns properly and dishwasher is installed correctly
  2. latch switch failed/latch mechanism is broken. Disconnect dishwasher from power. Disassemble door, check latch, check latch switches for continuity
  3. touch panel or control board (less likely) is failing. replace if none of the above is working for you.
Good luck,

We have a one drawer type dishwasher in our new motorhome and no pamplet seems to be enclosed. Could you please tell me how to lock it!! I does come pen when traveling! thank you.

Most dishwashers either have a latch located at the top that you must slide to the right, or have a mechanism that should lock it anytime the door is closed. Look at the top of the dishwasher door, if it's just a handle then it has the mechanism. Look at the handle for the door. There should be a lever within the handle that disengages the latch. There could be something broken within the door mechanism. You should see the catch on top of the door and receiver on the underside of the top portion of the dishwasher housing.

Opened door during cycle, latch now stuck in closed position, can't re-close

twist a paperclip around some pliers so you have a circle opening. then hook the paperclip around the latch and pull outward with the pliers. once the latch is facing outwards the door should close again

Dishwasher door won't open, latch seems broken

Hello, I read your comment. If the latch is broken, then I suggest first of all disconect the electricity from the dishwasher. You may want to try using a small screwdriver and insert it where the latch is to activate the opening mechanism. If it doesnt open, then there are two options, I suggest to call the technical service to replace the door with a new latch.

Hope I have been of help.

Broken maytag door latch assembly Maytag quiet series 300: the latch is not working, door is closed and cannot open, seems something snapped inside, how can I open the door ? and change the broken part ?

To open this latch, the handle works as a lever to push inward when you push up on the handle. If your handle if broken, it has probably ceased to work as a lever (the pivot pins have likely broken). You want to push in on the handle to open the latch, ideally toward the bottom of the handle opening. Once you get the latch open, you'll likely want to order a replacement (here is one source : http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Latch/W10130694/1266678 ). Remember to turn off the power to the dishwasher, and you'll need a star head driver to remove the screws from the inside of the door to access and replace the latch.

Dishwasher door will not open.tried running it another cycle and still nothing. It is a GE profile with the latch that you just push in. The latch/handle seems stiff.

The plastic latch release inside the door handle is broken. Most likely one of the pins holding it in place has broken.

First go to your local dishwasher supplier and look at a similar brand (GE Profile in my case) and see how the mechanism works. Next, get a thin pair of siccors, pull the dishwasher handle down and slid the siccors into the opening above the handel and push the tab holding the door closed up so it will release.

Once the door is open, remove the inside of the door to get to the latch. Remove the plastic latch release and order a new one.

Dishwasher door latch

sounds as if your door latch/handle is broken internally.your dishwasher is installed with 2 screws to theunderside of your countertop. its tricky but youll have to remove them (adjusting to leveling legs down will give you more room to get some kinda a phillips head bit in ther to remove the screws), once out slide the d/w foward and remove the strike plate door will open at least get your dishes out
