Sim card failure

you must contact the customer service for the phone and tell them you want to activate the phone that you already have and they will have to send you a new sim card. You will not be able to activate the phone unless you get the sim card from them. Your service time would have expired but if you purchased double airtime minutes for life you will still have that honored. You will have to purchase more airtime in order to have more service days.

however you could have contacted your service provider immediately and brought the problem to their attention

Tracfone deletes SIM cards and the associated phone number from their registration database if the available airtime minutes goes to zero. Try buying minutes for the phone. (If you wait too long (~2 months), Tracfone may not be able to re-register the SIM card. In that case, you'll need a new SIM card.)

Do you remember when your minutes were due to expire? (Remember Tracfone doesn't do roll-overs of minutes.)

I suspect that we are talking at cross purposes. Each SIm has the facility to lock/unlock; that is a security feature. Airtime providers also lock their phones, though, and that - I fear - is what you have here.

Which country are you in and which Airtime provider's SIM have you purchased? Has the SIM been activated?

I have dealt with most UK Airtime providers, Vodafone in Italy, Greece and Cyprus, plus Movistar in Spain.
