Question about Panasonic DMR-E20 DVD Recorder

4 Answers

Panasonic DMR-E20 Recently, This DVR finds fewer and fewer discs acceptable. It will play Side 1 of Schindlers List beautifully, but will not recognize Side 2. Same for many movies I recorded on it previously and had played well. Now it cannot even recognize blank discs for recording. Some movies I buy it will read, but most not. On occasion I can hear a shutter or gring when I insert a DVD. Help?

This is a tough one that CAN be solved. You will have to take the DVD Drive out of the unit. Take the drive apart and grease yes grease the rails the laser slides back and forth on. I used regualar Vasoline as it is inert and lasts forever. The sound you are probebly hearing is the stepper motor trying to move the stuck laser. I had the same problem. Or you could replace the entire drive, but as it doesnot work now you are not out anything trying to grease the rails because it is already broke. Take it slow and remember where everything goes. This is assuming that you have parked a cleaning disk in it already.

My TruTech DVD recorder went the same way, I returned/exchanged it twice and finally gave up and bought something of better quality. Sadly this seems to be typical of TruTech products.

If you hears a shutter or gringe then you should only watch Schindlers List.

The 90% of this problem are sove with a cleaning cd but I asume that you already do it then try with dry air(buy a can in radio shack) blow dry air by the port of the dvd with the tray open if not you have to take the machine to a tech...you got problem with the reading eyes...good luck

SOURCE: my panasonic DMR-ES 15 cannot read anymore!

There maybe a problem with the optic lens (dirt) try to clean it very gently with cotton, also the motor plate that holds the cd/dvd is not holding it very well so it not rotates at proper speed try to clean the both sides where the hole of the cd/dvd is when it´s inserted, if you think that you migth not have skills for that don´t do it.

Hope it help

SOURCE: Since it went into "disk recovery mode" it now will not play dvds

Got the same problem. Happened 2 months after guarantee expired. **** machine. The only good thing is the harddrive and that is made by HITACHI not Panasonic! I go Sony next time. Panasonic quoted £200 plus to fix the problem. I only paid £220 when I bought it new.

Manual for my ram dvd player dmr-ez48v

Panasonic has the owner's manual for the DMR-EZ48V on their product support page. Go to http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/DMR-EZ48VK and click on the Owner's Manual tab (second from the left). The direct link to the manual is http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMREZ48V-MUL.PDF . (Note: this is the US version of the DMR-EZ48V.)

I hope this helps.

Panasonic dmr-ez49veb wont play dvd-r discs

I would suggest contacting Panasonic support. You can search for their website/home page for their contact numbers. Typically, manufacturers maintain help, support, upgrade, forums and FAQs/knowkedge bases to help customers troubleshoot their appliances/equipment. I have used similar methods, previously, to update/upgrade the firmware on an "obsolete" DVR and it has lasted 4 more years (still working).

Failure to accept DvD Ram discs in a Panasonic DMR-E55 Recorder

Possibilities are that the laser lens needs cleaning (use a proprietary cleaning disc) or that - as long as you are sure you have original manufacturers' discs and not fakes - the discs are scratched or dirty.

Line Of Distortion Along The Bottom of an Em20 Burned Disc

It's possible there is either a codec problem with your computer player. I would recommend trying a player such as VLC Media Player, to see if that works. If that isn't it, what kind of TV's are you watching the video on? Are they "tubed" or flat screen? If they are tubed, you wouldn't be able to see the line at the bottom like you do when you play the video on the computer.
