My Lewis Union Special blindstitch stop hemiming. The Model is 150-5 How do I repair it

Does the machine do any zig-zag stitch? If there appears to be a problem with stitches other than straight stitch, the needle could be damaged. Replace with a brand new needle. If it still will not perform zig-zag or blind hem stitch, then it's possible the machine has been knocked out of time (not unusual when sewing heavy fabric or if the needle hits a pin or the needle plate). You can search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

You need to also have a blindstitch stitch on your machine. It looks something like this:

The straight stitch segment is stitched on the hem fabric, but the V portion zags over and catches a couple threads in the fold on the wrong side of the garment fabric.

Does it have a Stitch Width control? If not, it is probably a limited stitch only. Most Tacsew machines are made for high speed industrial sewing and frequently are made to perform a limited number of stitches. It appears this is a blindstitch for hemming.

try changing the needle
if that doesn't help you might consider having the machine check
to see if it's out of time

Hi. First, I'd recommend you get a replacement manual. They are really useful. Check out http://sewingpartsonline.com/sewing-machine-instruction-manuals.aspx.

I assume you have different stitches on the machine and a diagram of some sort showing what each stitch looks like. Find one that looks like:

---^---^---^--- (maybe on its side). That's the blindstitch. Some machines require you use a blindstitch foot with the stitch, but some don't. Without the user's manual, it's hard to say what your machine requires.

I was just researching the same issue, only for my Lewis Blindstitch. I found a copy of the US Blindstitch maintenance manual on the mansew.com webstite. It looks like the setup is very similar to my machine, so maybe you can adapt the information to yours also. Good luck.
