Hi Your Problem need an expert Technician, this Aiwa stereo has the digital type volume control that gives pulses to the cpu to make volume up / Down. Solution to be fixed by a technician: - Remove the volume from the front board, disassemble it and clean the conductive parts inside it then reassemble back and check. Good Luck Toufic G. Malek

In other words the lever that the front knob is attached to is broken or the microswitch is bad or broken.. if your not a tech please take the unit in to a shop as there are no user serviceable parts inside these units. Good Luck

Normal Aiwa compact shelf units use what is called a jog switch for the volume. Usually you can tell the difference if when you you turn the volume up or down. It goes a short distance and seems to spring back. In this case there are two momentary contact switches. One for up one for down. With a plastic lever on the back of the knob that bumps the approriate switch whether turning down or up. If the lever is broken it will bump up against one but not the other. If it is broken plastic you know how good gluing plastic goes it never seems to hold.
