Walkman was working ok, but software messed up so got the latest 4.0 sonicstage software. uppon adding a few albums, my laptop switched off due to low battery. My walkman now doesnt switch on or even show a connecting or charging screen??
First things first-have you pressed the reset button on the bottom of the unit? Secondly- try updating the firmware on your unit the manual way - Go to this link. http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.action?section=en_GB_Products&articlesection=1&article=1154694485490&productcategory=%2FAudio%2FNetwork+Walkman&productmodel=%2FAudio%2FNetwork+Walkman%2FNW-A3000&productsku=NWA3000B.CEK&site=odw_en_GB Go to download the latest version of Sonicstage but dont actually do it. At some point there is a link to update your firmware to version 3.0. Try doing this again, going through the update procedure it suggests, even if you already have 3.0 installed. This might work. Worth a try at least!

Hi,
The FORMAT ERROR message may occur if the Walkman player has been formatted using the format utility in Windows Explorer. To correct this issue, initialize (format) the portable player using the Initialize or Format utility built into your Walkman player.
Home button-->Menu-->Advanced Menu-->Initialize-->Format-->OK.
Reset the unit by pressing the RESET button with a small object such as a paper clip. Reset button is located near the volume buttons.
If the issue occurs after making any changes in the SonicStage Software, then reinstall the Software in the Computer using the latest version. Click here to download the latest version of the SonicStage Software.
This should resolve the issue.

Similar problem. When trying to connect the Connect software now tells me the device failed to initialise correctly - error 02040100. Will try suggested fix.
Tried to reformat the device from Connect player but that had no effect.
My NW-A3000 registered a connection problem. Neither the Connect software nor the new Sonicstage software would properly connect it. Both reported problems in connection. The device simply said that it was trying to connect.
I reinstalled the firmware to level 3.0 as described below. Then I used Sonicstage to delete all the information on the Walkman. This took quite a while, but you need to be patient! Additionally, I used the Connect software to format the Walkman. Finally (belt and braces), I reformatted the disk through the Walkman itself by using the Restore Factory Settings options from the menu.
Finally, I deleted the Connect software from my computer entirely and switched just to using SonicStage. Loaded everything into the SonicStage library, checked the synchonisation options, then let it run. All worked fine and everything synched.
The one thing to note - a lot of these actions take a long time to run ( a couple of hours) and the software doesn't tell you much. However, don't give up and re-boot!
Also, once the whole synchronisation process has concluded the Walkman will still say 'Connecting', although the SonicStage product will say it has completed. Provided the Walkman doesn't say 'Do not disconnect' you are safe to disconnect.
