I turned on my television, Mitsubishi hd 1080, but then the picture scrambles and the screen turns black with sound...then it shuts off on its own. What do I need to repair this problem?

Follow that traces that the cap is on, and see if it took out the fusable resistor and/or Diode.

Tech Man is right on with his suggested solution. Just wanted to add that your TV may contain a series of pico fuses that will have a bluish of greenish color (sorry...I am a little color blind). They will have a similar shape to a 1/4 watt resistor without the color bands and will have location IDs such as FA005 or FD005 etc. You should also be able to get the values of each of the pico fuses from the circuit board around the location Ids as well. But as mentioned by Tech man, make sure you do not have a defective diode or transistor first or you will not only open the possibility of "back to square one" but things could get worse. Hope this info. helps.
