Question about Insignia IS-DVD1001 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

No picture while playing DVD or VHS tape

I have an Insignia DVD/VCR combo. It's been working fine. Last night in the middle of a DVD the picture went blank on the TV. Still had sound. I checked connections - all OK. Turned off DVD/VCR player and the TV works fine. Plugged in a VHS tape and sound but no picture. Tried a different DVD. Sound, but no picture. My owners manual offers no suggestions except to check the connections. What's going on?

I have the same problem with my JVC LT26X575. I get no picture from my DVD player. I tried another DVD player on the same TV, but I didn't get a picture either. Neither TV or DVD player manuals provide any trouble-shooting sugestions.

Your unit has it seems to have developed a video problem. it could be in the video switching IC or the video processor. Its going to need a trained technician, who knows how to use an ocilliscope to find the video problem.. Good Luck

Sony rdr vx560 dvd recorder vcr combo

Look for tape residues on the head drum (metal cilinder inside). Clean it with extreme care or use a cleaning tape. If any tape get stuck inside recently the ground shaft might be bended and it causes grainy pictures.

How do I record my vhs tapes to Disk

I have done a lot of dubbing on my machine. First make sure the DVD is formatted. When you put in a new disc it should ask you if you want to initialize. Once that is done, switch to VCR mode. push play on the VCR then push the DUB button on the front of the machine. I hope it helps.

Cannot play VHS

Combo DVD/VCR players don't output the VHS with Component Video. Most of the time, it won't output over the S-Video either. The high end outputs are ONLY for DVD output. You must run a yellow wire, or use coax cable to get the video. Same goes for the optical digital sound out. It's only for DVD use.

On some of the DVD/VCR combo units, the VCR output is only available through the RF jack (channel 3), standard video1.gif (yellow) RCA jack and S-VIDEO jack. If you are using the Component jacks, the DVD side will work but the VCR will not. This is because the quality of video recorded on VHS tapes is so much lower than component quality video.
Thank you for rating this solution.
