There are two way basically, you can either a) hook you PS3 up directly to your router or modem using a CAT-5 cable (RJ-45 or regular old internet cable, whatever you want to call it) or b) hook up to the internet using the built in wireless adapter of the PS3. (provide of course, that you have wireless in range of your PS3)
If you are in your PS3's menu, go to settings and then network settings. You should be able to figure the rest out from there because it basically walks you through it.

Hope that helps

Sorry if the answer seems vague... but the question was a little vague as well, just doin' my best.

Can you hook the ps3 up to the internet wirelessly

Yes you can connect wirelessly to the internet with your ps3.

Minimum Requirements
  • PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system
    Note: PlayStation 3 40GB / 60GB / 80GB / 160GB models ONLY (20GB model does not have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity)
  • SIXAXIS™ wireless controller (and USB cable)
  • AC power cord
  • A high-speed Internet account (cable or DSL) with an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  • Router

    • Wireless router compatible with 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi standards
    • Or an Ethernet (wired) router with a Wireless Access Point (WAP)
You may need to open firewall port numberson your router to connect to the Internet.
The PlayStation 3 will not connect to the Internet through the USB ports.
    //
  • Updated system software installed on your PlayStation 3
Visit PlayStation 3 System Software Update to download and install the most recent version.
  • Your Wireless Network Settings

    • SSID
You will need to know the Service Set Identifier (SSID) of your wireless network. Also make sure the WAP or wireless router is set to broadcast the SSID; otherwise, the SSID will NOT appear on the PlayStation 3 scan results.
If you do not know this information, speak to the person who configured your home network (i.e., wireless router) settings.
    • WEP or WPA Security Key
If your wireless network access is security-enabled (encrypted) from open access, you will need to know your WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security key or password
If you do not know this information, speak to the person who configured your home network settings.
    • MAC address
You may need to enter the Media Access Control address (MAC address) of your PlayStation 3 into your WAP if it is required by your network settings.

Im currently overseas does anyone know how to connect the ps3 thru the computer with paid internet service

Need to have 2 network cards in the computer to do this, one for the internet and another to connect the PS3. Once this is done. Open Control Panel and select Network connections. Right-Click your internet connection and select Properties. Open the advance tab and check the box that says (Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection). Click OK. The computer will promt and send a message saying some settings will not take effect till the connection is reset, click OK. Then reset the internet connection. After that start the PS3 and go through the setup for an internet connection.

Icannot connect to the internet.when the system scans for an IP address it comes back saying failed. what to do?

In regards your issue connecting to the internet. You need to make sure that you are connecting your ethernet cable to the PS3 or connecting to a wireless router. If you are connecting to a wireless router double check your WEP/WAP settings. Also note if you have a USB modem to my understanding those would not work with the PS3 because you would not be able to install the drivers.

If you have any more questions let me know

PS3 wont connect to internet

Your PS3 should have WiFi built in unless you bought he 20GB version back when it first came out, that is the only one that dosn't have WiFi. But you can still connect it the way you want. You can use any type of ethernet cable, straight through or crossover. You need to go into your network connections in the control panel, select wired and wireless connection at the same time and bridge them. That should do it if you wanna go that route but you would have to have the computer on anytime you wanted to connect your ps3 to the internet. The best bet I think would be to just use the WiFi built into the PS3

Internet connection

It depends... If you use a router for the Internet then you don't need any cable, just turn on the router and then go to the PS3 and configure the PS3 to work with the router. If you have wired internet, then you will need an Ethernet cable, but since the PS3 comes with an Ethernet cable, you don't need to buy one. With the Ethernet cable, you have 2 options. If your modem has an Ethernet port, then just connect the PS3 to the modem directly. If the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port or direct connection won't work, then you can use Internet Connection Sharing to connect your PS3 to the Internet.
