Hitachi 50V500 I have the shadowing problems as well. It shows up as an extra outline (ghost) around numbers , letters, and outlines of faces. What is the problem? Would a new bulb fix it? current one is 2 years old.

Turn off your set. ( wait for the light and the fan to shut down) push and hold the Input button on the panel, power it on with the power button on the tv, as soon as you see the service menu appear, let go of the input button. Scroll down to : LCD adjust, toggle blue button to the right, another screen will appear. Adjust the squares on the screen until the ghosts are gone. hit Exit twice::Ghosts are Busted!

The solution by Stealth worked perfectly. Don't forget to put the TV on Ant A or another unused input before you get into the service menu.

Here is what I suggest----look at lettering and or put the mode to 4X3 which is smaller left and right.

Look at the edges of that picture or lettering on screen---this model sometimes has a ghosting where images have a slight shadow, like with rabbit ears.

If this is the case there is a way with the remote to CORRECT IT.

I have the information--confirm if slight ghosting around letters--it can be white or any color.

I have seen this before.

There is a specific method for ghost adjustment on the 50v500.

Ghosting is most noticeable on lettering or with the set in the 4X3 format the edges will look somewhat double or have a ghost.

If this is what you have: I have the process which is done with the Hitachi remote to correct this. I got this from Hitachi who published a service bulletin on this problem for this model.

My hitachi 50v500 has double letters/numbers... picture doesnt seem to be alligned properly? Everything has a matching shadow just to the left.

I am answering this because I know this set and do not like the answers you have received.

If you see a slight "ghost" to the left or right of lettering--it can be corrected with the remote--there is a exact way to do this--I have done it before and have instructions based on a service bulletin from Hitachi.

Confirm you have the ghosting to right or left of letters and I would be happy to post the instructions to correct that--all of it is done with the Hitachi remote that came with the set.

If you decide to do it I will give you the instructions and help you do it.

I have helped 4 other people here with the exact same set and problem.

Understand that not all people here know what they are talking about-I am sorry you got a poor answer, but I know this set well.

That looks like you will need the digital board replaced. I would suggest having a technician do this for you.

Picture shadow

Double check you cable connection. Also see if this occurs primarily on local channels. If it is only on local channels it is a cable connection issue. loose connector or moisture that has gotten on the screw threads of the cable connector due to the elements outdoors.

No this is not a color adjustment sorry to say! it sounds like the circut board thet runs the color lenses inside your tv has some burnt out capciters and the circut board will need replaced! (the one thet controls the blue lens!) Please rate my response!

Hitachi 50V500 TV: has a red line that outlines faces or text

It's a light engine defective part. Hitachi knows about it and if you call their customer relations department, they will refer you to a dealer in your area to come and diagnos the problem. Once Hitachi can verify that's the problem, they will ship the part to the dealer. We had our part in 2 days and had it installed today. No more problems. TV looks brand new. We had to pay the installation of $400 but the part runs around $1500 and Hitachi covered it. We felt like $400 was worth the $3600 we bad 3+ year ago when we bought it. The color will only get worse if the light engine is not replaced. Good Luck! It was an easy fix!
