How to turn off the router's firewall

Hi
I am trying to connect to programs like emule, and it says that the firewall is on. I am turning the Norton's firewall off, but still get the same result. I understand that it may be the router's firewall... How do I turn that off?
My router is Compex Netpassage 18A.
Thanks a lot!
Yaron

EMule TCP Port 11522 not reachable

Does you norton program have a firewall included with the software? If so, your windows firewall was probably turned off automatically because having two firewalls running simultaniosly can cause a conflict between the two firewalls and therefore will not work correctly. If you have a firewall included with your norton software make sure it is turned on and leave your windows firewall off, other wise turn your windows firewall back on.

As far as your situation with the broadband modem, I have to ask: Is your Thomson hardware a broadband router (wireless/wired), or are you using an access point? (wireless/wired) If you are using a "router" there is no way to set it up to work with the modem the cable company provided you. However, if the Thomson modem hardware is an "access point" the only thing I can suggest is to follow these steps:

1) Pull the power cord out of the back of the modem that the cable company provided to you.

2) Next, plug in your Thomson router in to the ethernet port of the computer.

3) You are then going to configure that device. Start by going to the "network and Internet" section in your control panel. There should be a section in there where you can click that says "setup a new network connection" There should be an option to set up and "access point" and it will search for your hardware. If your hardware is found you will probablybe promped to input information about your router and once that's done it should set up successfully. If it isn't successful by some chance don't give up just yet! Go to step 4-

4) Shut down your computer.

5) next, switch the ethernet cable going from your Thomson hardware to the modem from the cable company.
6) You will then need a second ethernet cable to go from a second port of the Thompson hardware in to the ethernet port on your computer.

7) next, plug the power cord back in to the modem from the cable company and your Thompson hardware and start up your computer.

You should be able to get a wired internet connection if all goes well. If you have a wireless access point go ahead and set up a separate internet connection only this time choose "wireless" and choose your settings. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have more questions. Happy Holidays!

Skillground error 357

i've tried (for several days now) to download the software, but everytime i click "download & play" nothing happens
(it looks like the 'page' just keeps refreshing it self for several minutes, ending in a "error code 357" message!

I contacted skillground numerous times , and thou they are helpful in their replies.. they keep saying that its my router and/or firewall that prevents the software from downloading.. BUT

even when i disable the router (running the internet cable direct from the "wall plug" into my pc) , and disableing my firewall (Norton) (i have even tried uninstalling the Norton).... its still the same problem

I've allowed cookies... set the internet security to minimum ..disabled the router and Norton firewall, ..removed the skillground 'program' and even tried to create another account ...but its still the same problem ... so i've ran out of idea's

but have you tried checking (in addition to your router, and norton firewalls) the built-in vista firewall?

Firewall

You may find out that Norton is causing the block and not the firewall. To disable the Windows firewall do the following:

1) Click on Start then control panel
2) Click on Windows Firewall
3) Click on the Exceptions tab and see if Windows Live is listed and checked.
4) If not, click add program and add Windows Live

If it is there and checked then you can disable the firewall by clicking on the General tab and selecting Off from the firewall screen.
4) Finally, click OK

If none of this works then try turning off Norton. If that lets you log in then you will need to add Windows Live as an exception to Norton.

Good luck

Belkin Wireless Router F5D82314 worked fine for a year, now will not allow desktop or laptop to go to links from homepage

Hi!

Can you describe your setup in a little more detail, please? What OS's are on your computers, what firewall and Anti-virus programs are on the computers, and especially did you change anything else at about the same time that this problem started?

The easiest way to determine if a firewall is the problem is to turn the firewall completely off and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you then know that you need to configure that firewall so that it will work properly in your environment. If I were to venture a guess (which could be totally wrong), a firewall on your computers (like one that is installed as part of a Norton/Symantec program, for example, even if the program isn't labeled as a firewall) is in conflict with the router's firewall.

Please let me know if this helps and good luck!

I need help connecting t o the internet

there are several issues that could lead not being able to connect to the internet. it can be a router problem if you are networked. it can be the ethernet card. it can be that you internet explorer is corrupted, it can be that you have an invalid ip address, it can be due to firewall. if you have a norton or mcaffee antivirus program the firewalls of this program can prevent you from getting online. or some updates from norton or mcaffee will knock off your internet connection.
try going to safemode with networking in the advance boot menu (normally if you press f8 when your computer is turned on) if you can go online in safemode with networking it means a program is causing you not to connect.
worst case scenario: REINSTALLATION OF WINDOWS

Emule lowid

I am sorry, but I would not listen to advice that you need to disable your Firewall for it to work!?!

Obviously as the response shows, even with the Firewall disabled it did not work [and would be vulnerable to attack]

There are two possibilities off hand:
  1. You have not taken into account forwarding ports in your Router as well as Software Firewall [if applies to you]
  2. Your ISP may be aware of using the ed2k protocol and try to stop you from using eMule
Remember to use the OBFUSCATION option.
This option in eMule allows you to connect to a server in a way
that masks or 'hides' the ed2k (eMule) protocol

Go To Options > Security

Here you'll tick the "Enable Protocol Obfuscation" box
06ecf4c.png

Remember to only tick the first box under "Protocol Obfuscation"

You should be able to see your 'hidden' status on the right side
of the server window in eMule

If your ISP was in fact interfering, this should help you gain back your ability to use eMule without restriction

You need to find out what port Emule uses for sharing, then enter the port number in you routers Firewall Virtual Servers menu in the settings and enable your pc's ip address to accept inbound connections.
