We had same problem with our ADP 5966. An engineer over the phone said he thought it was related to machine being unable to drain. I checked the drainage pipe connection to u-bend under sink, and sure enough, there was a major blockage. Cleared that and hey presto, problem solved.

We have an ADP 6830 that occasionally had F4 problems, solved by *thoroughly* cleaning and de-greasing the filter frame, basket and sensor - we also quickly realized that there was a low threshold for oils/greases/debris of any kind, so we rinse and load.

This week's F4 was solved after a good hour of removing outflow tube (clean), cleaning and inspecting all interior parts. Another forum post indicated pump/impeller blockage may also cause F4, so I took some light gauge wire, taped the end so as not to scratch or snag, and jammed it into the outflow opening in the well, poking vigorously at the impeller blades. 10 seconds later I was able to run a complete cycle of *already clean* dishes without problem. It ain't scientific, but I can get on with my day!

Whirlpool dishwasher F8 E1 error

You have a blockage in the drain line someplace. If you have a garbage disposer, check to see that it is clear where the dishwasher connects to it. Also check and make sure that the drain hose is higher then the inlet to the disposer to prevent water draining back into the drain line from the disposer. If that's clear you have a blockage somewhere in the drainline. Best to unit from cabinet and check it

Whirlpool 6th sense dishwasher

Can you hear the wash pump running?
Most likely the main wash motor start capacitor is faulty and not able to run the motor.
On a whirlpool this part is mounted on the side of the motor and is about the size of a D battery. It will have 2 to 4 wires going to it. When you replace it, ensure that you use the correct mF rating. This will be printed on the old one, or your local appliance parts store will be able to tell you which one it needs by the model number.
Hope this helps.

Welcome

My advice now a days is :

It's really not advisable to fix a dishwasher that old.
It's putting good money into bad!

Here is an article I just read that you may find interesting.

Repair or replace?
When to pull the plug on your dishwasher

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems in the owner's manual and on the Web sites of many manufacturers.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model? The answer depends mostly on the age of your dishwasher, how much you bought it for, and the cost of the repair. Follow these guidelines from our in-house experts:

When a repair makes sense. If your dishwasher is under warranty or less than four years old , paying for a repair makes sense. Note that dishwasher under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician; readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice. If your dishwasher is out of warranty and is four to seven years old, it might make sense to pay for a repair. Readers paid $100 to $200 for a repair. But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage, given that today's models are quieter and have added features. They pay for them selves in only a few years due to higher energy efficiency which is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008, are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace. The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new dishwasher. Our data also show that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive dishwasher six or more years old .
Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent of a dishwasher you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.
