Question about Whirlpool 24 in. ADP5966 Free-standing Dishwasher
We had same problem with our ADP 5966. An engineer over the phone said he thought it was related to machine being unable to drain. I checked the drainage pipe connection to u-bend under sink, and sure enough, there was a major blockage. Cleared that and hey presto, problem solved.

We have an ADP 6830 that occasionally had F4 problems, solved by *thoroughly* cleaning and de-greasing the filter frame, basket and sensor - we also quickly realized that there was a low threshold for oils/greases/debris of any kind, so we rinse and load.
This week's F4 was solved after a good hour of removing outflow tube (clean), cleaning and inspecting all interior parts. Another forum post indicated pump/impeller blockage may also cause F4, so I took some light gauge wire, taped the end so as not to scratch or snag, and jammed it into the outflow opening in the well, poking vigorously at the impeller blades. 10 seconds later I was able to run a complete cycle of *already clean* dishes without problem. It ain't scientific, but I can get on with my day!
