Question about JVC UXN1 Shelf System
I have the JVC UX-1 and not the UX-N1. The UX-1 was one of the very first micro systems. The problem with my unit is that at first tapes play fine, but then after 20-30 minutes of play, the unit emits a screeching noise that only ends when I stop the tape. If I press play again, the screeching resumes. It seems it is only after an extended period of time of the cassette deck not in use, that I can hit play and not have the screeching there. However, I can only listen for 20-30 minutes before the screeching will begin once again. Any ideas on this issue ? Thanks. BTW this happens with tapes that play fine in other players, so it is definitely this particular player that is causing the problem.
Yeppers very common problem .. If the noise dosent come from the speakers then the problem is in the motor in the cassette deck. if the problem comes from the speakers when the deck is playing a tape, then the problem is in the record/playback switch. you may beable to fix it by spraying just a lttle bit of tuner cleaner inside the switch. It shouldnt cost much to have a repair shop do this as if you spray too much your going to ruin the belts and the mechanism. Good Luck

Thanks for your insight techman. The screeching is not coming from the speakers but from the deck itself. Any recommendations if it's the motor that's the issue? Is this an expensive problem to fix in a repair shop? Cheers.
