Question about Philips Magnavox MS2530C 25" TV

2 Answers

TV scrambles About a week ago my Magnavox started scrambling. I turn it on and it starts off with a bunch of colors zig-zagging, then after a second its fine until i turn the channel to the same problem. The picture works fine, just when I bring up any sort of menu it starts to scramble until I turn off the menu. Also when I try playing videogames it will only work when I look a certain direction on the game. But sometimes it won't even go to the game menu, bc the scrambling is so bad. I have no idea why it's doing this. Infact it's really hard to even explain whats going on. I've been to about 30 forums and no one has submitted this problem that I've seen. Please help me understand whats going on. The TV is about 6 yrs old.

Sounds like from what your describing, a horizontal sync problem and there are a few capacitors in this model that does cause that. If your not a tech this is something you should mess with as the way to trouble shoot this problem would be by using a scjhemetic, a isolation transformer and an ocilliscope. its a possiblity that you could also have a tune rproblem thats giving the sync separator circuit a weak sync pulse from the video its putting out. Good Luck

Scrambling for first 15 mins

That is the exact problem I am currently having with my toshiba 50 in. I did some reading and it sounds like there is a temperature drift across one of the capacitors on the board and it takes longer and longer to warm up. Havent fixed it yet...
