Question about Nikon Coolpix 4200 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Please help Hi, Can you please help? My Nikon 4200 coolpix camera will not respond. Every time I turn it on, it registers a message 'This card cannot be used'. I have exactly the same memory card as when I bought it and I have downloaded pictures before. Please help as I have my sisters wedding photos on there from a few months back and really wish to download them and carry on using the camera. Kind regards Ruthie xx

Hi Ruthie, dont get tense, there are so many data recovery software available on net, just download it and recover your sister's wedding photo. but i think you did not format your memory card regularly, that's why it happened. so dont forget to format regularly after recover your photos. good luck...

I Purchased a new SDHC card from Argos which was 4 GB as the one that came with my Nikon coolpix 3700 is a 16mb I put this new one into my camera and the camera showed that you couldn't use this card,...

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 1GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 1GB capacity.

My Coolpix 4200 does not recognise SD cards

Try re-formatting the card. It should be one of your camera menu options.

If that doesn't work, buy or borrow another card and try that. If a new card doesn't work you've a camera problem.

If its a camera problem, I'd try the Nikon web site, follow links to support and/or downloads to see if there's a firmware upgrade for the camera.

Sytem error 10

Hi - I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we will do everything to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible. Click Here for our Nikon Authorised Service Centres details.

Sort of like a Windows Restart to reset the memory.

Hope this helps.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.
