Open a text message then on the bottom of the screen look for the word options. Key to the word and click enter to open the options menu. Then key to delete and you phone will ask you if you want to delete the message and you respond by keying enter. You have to do this with each message.
take the back off and remove the battery and remove the sim chip. Put the battery back in and power up the phone without the sim chip. This seems to reset the phone. Turn off the phone, remove the back take out the battery, reinstall the sim chip and put the battery back in - and the phone shoudl work.
Also, If you have a bunch of message, pictures and recordings, clean it up.
ok on cingular/at&t its not possible but there is a ghetto way of doing it go to ur quick notes and go down 4 lines then type what u would want as your autosignature then when u get done typing ur message press insert>then go to quicknotes then choose what u wanted as ur autosignature then send.
I would definitely reset the phone, unless you can find a way to clear the text messages out before it crashes to the Main Menu. My guess is that you have a corrupted text message in your inbox, and it is crashing the software.
Resetting the phone will wipe out all of the data on it, so make sure you back it up first. If you have the Motorola Phone Tools, you may also want to try accessing the text messages or updating the phone software through it first.
try holding down the power remove the back cover and battery (at this point briefly let up on the power) remove the sim card wait for "insert sim card" message remove battery reinsert sim card and battery release power key when the splash screen comes up
if this dose not work you may need to reflash your phone
Do you have too many text messages stored on your phone? I had a phone like that, If when I neared the storage limit it would stop allowing any entering of text messages. Just go to the menu button when your in the text message area and press the menu key, scroll down to cleanup messages, select it and delete them all.
