Question about GE JGBS07PEAWW Gas Kitchen Range

My range pilots work fine but my oven pilot will not light. Do pilots wear out after 4 years? Is it easy to replace a pilot?

Please assist - I have followed the GE owner's manual and used a match and even tried a Scripto igniter to light the pilot and it never appeared to be lit. Do I need to replace the pilot mechanism and if so how difficult is that to do? I do not want to get ripped off by some repairman that sees me as an easy target due to my ignorance about oven repair. Does anyone have an opinion regarding home warranties -- does it make sense to get one? I have a feeling that parts of our other appliances may be sputtering out soon. Any advice would be appreciated.

Trey, this is not a hard fix. More than likley your ignitor for the oven has gone bad. It has to draw a certain amount of amps to open the gas valve. If you remove the bottom panel in the oven, should be 2 screws in the back and lift it out, you will see the flame spreader. Remove this, should be a couple 1/4 inch screws. Now you will be looking at the burner and ignitor. The part number for the ignitor is wb13k0021. The ignitor is held on to the burner with 2 1/4 inch screws. It is not uncommon for these ignitors to fail within 4 years....Catriver...post back.

The world today and gas prices.....people are even charging people to answer simple question as well in this world today.

long story short....i have a kenmore gas range and thought my pilot would not light, so in such for answer and a 300 hundred dollar extra protection ran out. nobody could answer a question without a buck in there hand.

solution. i give up.....as i give up after three hours. i decide to put everything back together that i ripped apart. i figured let me put the burner plates back on that my wife decided to take off to clean in which thats when hell broke loose. i thought she broke it trying to over clean the stove. anyways....problem solved.

the buner plates needed to be ON has a safety feature to the free standing gas range. in which everything ignited all well. so i hope this will help someone in the future... good luck to your problems cause i did not have any. well, i kind of did, did not cost me a thing but a night in the dog house.

kenmore freestanding gas range.
model 790.

Is there a gas pilot light that stays lit all the time or does it have an electric pilot light that glows red to start the oven.Either way if it's a gas pilot the thermocouple is bad, if electric the igniter is bad.

Pilot lights go out because the Thermocoupler is either bad or not getting hot enough. It will be a copper tube that should touch the pilot light flame. these are replaceable and usually any appliance repair supplier can get you one. Some units reuire changing out the entire gas control

I just got my (new to me) pre-1990 Wolf 36'' range connected (by a certified pro). 4 burners, 12'' fry top/charbroiler/cheesemelter thingie on left, 4 burners on right, 29'' oven - propane. It has not been...

the oven pilot has 2 setting first setting is for you to light small flame, should not be all yellow if it is it has a dirty orifice inside the pilot hood, you can remove this by disconnecting the pilot line from the hood and removing orifice for cleaning, just rub it with a cloth.once clean and replaced you light pilot and check it out. if its ok turn on oven and secondary pilot will ignite that why it got bigger!! this heats a flame sensor to allow 100% safty vavle to open to let gas into burner so yuo can cook.

I have a Frigidaire gas range, model #FGF316BSA. When I attempt to operate the oven it won't light. The glow bar comes on but nothing happens after that.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that possible oven control is not sending gas for the pilot light. The pilot light works but no main burner ignition - possible pilot assembly is dirty and the pilot flame is too small, safety valve and thermocouple is faulty, the bulb from the safety valve is out of position and the pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple bulb. Some ranges use a standing pilot light ( small flame is on all the time ) while others use an spark ignition to light the pilot light flame and the pilot light flame heats up the thermocouple bulb to allow the main gas to flow through the oven burner.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

You might need a new thermocouple. The thermocouple tells the oven that the pilot is lit and that it is ok to let gas into the oven. It is the metal rod that is connected to the pilot. They are fairly cheap and easy to install.

Stove works just fine/oven does not warm up - pilot light is on, but turning on oven does nothing but make the pilot light glow a little bigger. Oven will not ignite.

Hi, The ignitor is getting weak and will not open the gas valve. Replace the ignitor and you will be back in business. This is a very common problem with the gas ovens.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Lighting a pilot light in a 30 year old roper gas range

Lift the top lid and look for a cylinder or something similar with tubing going into it there should be a button of some sort on the side. if you are lucky the button will have a red cap on it. press the button in and light the pilot inside the oven. hold the button for a minute or so until the pilot stays on. kind of like lighting a water heater.

Oven pilot light won't light

It is usually a bad thermocouple. Mine had only had a weak pilot flame and the problem turned out to be a corroded and leaking pilot gas line. It was leaking whee it enters at the bottom of the oven chamber.
