Is there a prankster nearby thast has a remote tuned to your set? As a young lad I used to play this trick on my neighbors daughter.
You should also investigate whether it is timed.. that is has a regular interval or time that it does happen. It could be another appliancwe doing this A/C ,Security system or some other eklectronic device. The dog has the remote under the cushion?
This sounds like the front panel assembly(FPA) switches are acting up. What happens is the FPA switches start to conduct just as if someone was pressing the buttons. This in effect locks up the system control or causes it to do erratic things. The way to determine if the FPA is bad is to remove it by unplugging from set. This requires front panel disasembly. Note:The remote will still work with the FPA removed so the set can be tested. Let me know if you need more help or info. Post back with make/model info. (the problem is common especially with RCA)
You will need an RCA Remote or Universal (RCA) may work. Once the Front Panel Assy. is locked the TV will only Power on with a remote. Call an Authorized RCA warranty service center, and offer to leave a deposit for the use of the remote. Power the TV on with the remote. Press Menu on remote. Press CH- (down) button on remote to highlight "Preferences". Press OK button to open menu. Press CH-(down) button to highlight "FPA Lock". Press Vol.+ button to turn off FPA Lock.Press Menu button to return to Main Menu. Press Menu button again to clear On Screen Display.
I have a 20f511t RCA Tru Flat with FPA lock on, using an universal GE remote press setup, then menu, channel down to preferences, press enter, channel down to FPA LOCK, volume up to change to on or off, press menu to remove, all shoud work now
The only way to fix it is wit remote , get your self a universal remote and do manual search until set switched on , then go to menu and turn lock off before it happened again.
Most RCA and GE TV sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The code reset procedure is different depending on the model. Try each method until you find one that works:
Hold down MENU on the remote and VOLUME DOWN on the TV it’s self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the 0 on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN buttons on the TV its self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down GO BACK on the remote and MENU on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down EJECT on the front of the TV and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Depending on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET.
I have never heard of FDA lock. If you mean FPA lock, this is the Front Panel Access lock (also called Child Lock) built into the TV. To unlock FPA, turn the set on with the original remote, enter the menu, navigate to the page with FPA and set it to off.
