Pioneer PRO-710HD 64" Rear Projection Television Logo

Question about Pioneer PRO-710HD 64" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Convergence IC's When watching a picture that does not fill the screen I have a balck line on the top and botton of the screen that about 2" wide but the middle of the black area pulls toward the center about 1" more than the outer edges. The grid square convergence adjustment works fine to aling the red and blue adjustments and the picture quality is great. when I watch something in 4:3 ratio, the entire picture pulls in to the center about 1" more than the outer edge of the box. I here that replacing the convergence amplifier IC's will fix most problems, But I am not sure if this is the case with mine. I was told my my dealor that if I replace the STK392-110 ICS's with STK-392-180 they will last longer. I would also like to know if they are a like for like replacement or will I have to replace some resistors also. Thanks for the help.

I would like to add that when watching a program that fills the screen, I can not see any problem with the picture.
Until a caption box or info is displayed on the bottom of the screen then I notice it.

It does not sound like a convergence problem as you stated that all the lines match up and are ok??? You have space at the top and the bottom, as well as on both sides? Well my friend it sounds like you have a power regulator problem with the main power supply, because it sounds like the voltage is low and causeing the set to have a smaller then normal picture. Check the Main B+ first. I dont have a schematic but if you need, I know lots pof authorized pioneer peeps, and can getbwhat voltage and what part is most likly bad. We hardly repaired the boards as they(pioneer ) did not have most of the descrete parts and mostly had the boards themselfs to replace. You could also take out the B+ regulator board and have it rebuilt at PTS. They have a web addy of http://www.ptscorp.com Look them up and get their tele # and call them to see about the replacement cost. If they can't help go here Main support number800-421-1606. Good Luck

Hitachi 50SBX78B Horizontal lines and bow

John, Hitachi site is down at the moment, if you remove the clips on the front of the IC`s you will see the numbers of the convergence ic`s, and yes they are a pain to get out, they are probably stk 392-110`s if they are the originals, you`ll have to un-solder 36 pins total to get them out, check for burnt resistors in the general area of the ic`s and replace any that are burnt before turning the set on,be sure to order a tube of "heat sink compound" to apply to the back of the new IC`s, once on the set will probably still look poor, this is normal, run the set for minimum of 15 minutes then push the " magic focus button " inside the front door panel, after it has finished running magic focus it should look great, video-tek

Picture flickers in and out rapidly, gets blurry for about 5sec then looks like new for about 5sec then back again

Did you replaced 2 IC convergence as well or just 2 resitors 3.9 ohms ? if you did replaced 2 IC then you might have probelm in convergence drive it is1 of the PCB mount vertical on the left side from the rear view under part BP95-00415C you need to readjust the convergence by using your remote control just follow in the servive manual

Hitachi projection tv

I would change both ICs STK392-110 and also the 3.3ohm 1 watt resistors and the 1.8 ohm 1 watt you would need 2 of each resistor. Then your convergence would be new again. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link with free shipping and free instalation instructions with pictures.
