Hi there, About a month ago on holiday I had a really bad fall and landed on my bag that my Sony DSC-S40 was in, and the slider that lets you change between playback, camera and video modes broke off. I have tried to change modes by using a needle (silly I know) however this only worked once after fooling around with it for 10 minutes. The camera itself is fine and still works - any idea what I should do? My dad bought the camera in America less than a year ago and we live in the UK, so not sure if I am able to send it off or which repair store to ask. Thanks guys, please write back with any ideas as I have none!
If you can’t get the manufacturer to fix it you may want to fix it yourself. I found a guy in South Carolina who sells good used parts. I bought a LCD from him for $39.00, fixed it myself and it works great. I think his email is [email protected]
I have exactly the same problem with a different brand of camera. The switch you refer to is a tiny little thing soldered to a flat ribbon cable. With much less expense than going to Sony keep an eye out on Ebay. Either for a completely non working camera or someone selling parts. It may take a while but broken cameras abound on Ebay and it shouldn't be too long before one appears. Just do a simple transplant of the required parts and keep the rest should anything else happen. I waited 2 weeks for one to appear for mine and it's on the way from the US as we speak. Total cost with freight $28.00 AUD BMW
Hi Jenna, i appreciate your spirit for confessing a silly mistake. Generally no one confess, any way you have to change the slider. Dont get tense, just go to sony shop. As you said, you purchased the camera from America, but the question is if it covers international warranty, if so ,dont worry go to any sony shop anywhere in UK. They will sure help you. But I suppose breakage will not be include in warranty. So take a chance... good luck....
