Problem with Sony KDS-60A2000 60

After being on for as little as 5 min or as long as 2 hours, the TV goes dark, no sound and then the power/standby light starts flashing. it does it for about 30 seconds and then picture comes back on slowly and then the sound comes back. I can't find any mention of what blinking green power/standby light means. Please help.

SOURCE: I have no picture and light flashes 5 times

If you pull the right side out (as you look at the front), get you ear down to the fan exhaust area and turn the set on. If you do not hear the fan turn or feel air being blown out, then you have a defective fan. It is a common problem.
Hope this helps,

SOURCE: sony kds-60a2000 has a green tint to picture

I have had the same problem for about 6 months, and never paid much attention to it. I also noticed that when trying to change the menu color, the colors do not show up correctly.

Now it seems to be getting worse, and so I started doing some research, starting with the Sony site. That is when I found out there is an extended warranty for the KDS series (50a2000, 55a2000, 60a2000, r60xbr2, and r70xbr2) TVs because of an optical block issue, until June 30, 2010, no matter when you bought the TV.

You can see the recall here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=277&mdl=KDS60A2000

It seems they are extending the warranty, but not doing a recall. In other words, they aren't telling anyone, but if you happen to find the information, they will replace the optical block, if necessary. The closest I could find to the green hue issue is a purple haze on the screen.

I don't know if this is the problem, but I have scheduled an appointment to have the optical block changed. I will repost after the optical block has been changed and inform whether this is the fix to the problem.

Either way, the optical block seems to be an issue and would get it replaced whether you need it or not.

SOURCE: the picture appears to have a green tint to it

The optical block is failing. Contact SONY for a replacement. They have extended the warranty or replace the sets

Testimonial: "I had no idea that Sony had extended the warranty, thanks a lott! "

SOURCE: my power light is flashing red three times on and

The 3 blink code indicates that the lamp door is not secure. If you havent removed the door then its probably the switch for lamp door sensor.

I would remove the lamp door and then reinstall it. Do this with the set unplugged then plug it back in and check operation.. Basically sometimes the lamp door switches become dirty and by removing and reinstalling the door it usually corrects the problem..

If this doesnt work then you will need to either have the set checked out by a tv technician or you can try replacing the switch yourself. But as I said normally just removing and reinstalling corrects the problem.. Good Luck!

Tv not bright enough on a sony kds-r60xbr1

When was the lamp this model uses for brightness last replaced? These as a rule have a 2,000 hour or 2 year average lifespan and many just before they fail will go darker, picture will come up slower and be a bit dim.

I have a sony kds-r50xbr1 when turn-ed on the stand by light flashes for about a min the goes solid and picture comes on but very dark. replaced lamp . there is no sound from any input and the controls...

Sir try to reset the lamp timer. you should press the "display" button on the remote then "5" then the "volume up key" and power "on" you should do this while the tv is in standby mode. Then press "Jump" 3 times to enter the DE service menu. Your tv will display the total lamp hours. Reset the lamp time by pressing channel 3, then mute, then enter. this will make your lamp hour timer to zero. Good day and best regards.

I have a sony kds-r50xbr1 and the problem is that it takes about 1 min to turn on and the screen appears for a bout 1-2 sec and then shuts off to a black screen where the power/standby blinks continuously...

Its time to replace lamp in this tv because existing lamp has reached to end of its working life span and causing problem. If lamp got broken, you will see lamp light lit on tv front but weaker lamp cause above symptoms.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual.
Buy Sony original lamp for good and bright picture in tv.
Thanks.

Standby light flashes and the TV screen goes blank on and off for the first hour the TV is on

The exact count of the flashes will indicate the nature of the fault. Count the flashes to the pause ( normally 2 to 9 flashes) and contact a Sony service center. They may be able to tell you what is wrong. I t could be a backlight problem. You should get warranty repair or call your extended warranty company.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

TV screen went black, sound ok, red light blink 5 times

Be sure its blinking 5 times, count after it cycles the first time through the red lights. If it is fact 5 times, that is a lamp driver error.More likely it cycled 4 times, which is common on this model, if that's the case, then it's the fan. Most likely the large one in the rear...It's an easy fix, just pull the back off and replace the part.
