Hello Darren, Yes it sounds like the mic is wired bass ackwards,,! A cobra 25 mic wiring is
PIN #1- Shield or ground wire
PIN#2- Audio or Transmit modulation
PIN #3- Transmit or Dead Key
PIN #4- Receive Audio.
When your keying the mic, the RX wires are being connected to make the RX work,,,
*** Let me know how you get along with it. Either buy a new mic wired for your radio or you or someone comfortable with soldering needs to resolder the correct wires back on the mic plug,,,Like I said, let me know and have a great day,, Mechanic is back quiet!

I can recieve but i cant transmit have new antenna and new mic

Check that your mic gain or dynamike knob is turn clockwise if it is full counter clockwise you will have no modulation with your tx power.
I would like to help but one sentence describing your problem can lead to a vague solution.
Be aware that not all 4 pin mikes are wired the same.
Stock
1- Shield
2- Audio
3- Transmit
4- Receive

I have no audio going out but audio coming in> im not sure if i need a new microphone.

It could be a Final transmit transistor or it could be the Microphone itself also, change Mics and crank up MiC gain. If that does not do it. Its your Final.

Radio stays transmiting after mic released

What happens if you "key up" and "let off" and the transmitter "hangs", you remove the microphone plug from the Cobra ?
Will it still be transmitting or will it stop ?
If it stops, the problem is in the microphone with a "hanging" switch which you can easily clean or replace.
Iif it keeps transmitting while the mike is disconnected, there is a problem with the Rx/Tx switching circuit. This needs further investigation by use of a circuit diagram.

Cobra 148 gtl

First off check to see if your mic gain is turned all the way down. Second; if you have a power mic is the battery dead ir the volume of the mic turned down. If these check ok, look for a loose or broken audio wire in your microphone, and the connector (both ends can break). I have seen the wires break as far back as 4 inches from the mic head and the connector depending on how the user held the microphone, or pulled against the wire. if the problem is not found to be any of the above I suggest you take the radio to a qualified technician for repair.

Cb transmitting problem

Hello kaelea,

Check your ground wire and by your post I gather that you are user some form of headphone device, I say this because normally the speaker is off when the microphone is keyed. I would also check the controls on the headset if you are using one.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
