Brake Trouble Light This symbol, and the Canadian version below, could indicate a serious Brake problem, but the light will also be on when the hand/emergency brake is engaged. So, if you are sure the hand/emergency brake is released, bring your vehicle to a stop as soon as possible and contact your dealer. To continue driving could well be dangerous.
Brake trouble light in Canada, and other areas. The look of the Canadian symbols involving brakes are supposed to resemble the physical appearance of brakes. They do, but primarily only to people who have had the opportunity to take them apart. The word 'brake' may appear at the top of the image.

From Fiat LOW Brake Fluid / Parking Brake Either the exclamation mark symbol or the 'BRAKE' dashboard symbol may be used on various models of the Fiat 500. Light should illuminate until engine has started. If light remains on, it signifies the parking / hand brake is on, or that there is insufficient brake fluid in the reservoir. If light illuminates and the handbrake is not applied, braking may become defective. Seek assistance from a Fiat technician immediately.

Check to make sure your parking/hand brake is fully released, sometimes the spring that pushes back on the mechanism isn't strong enough, doesn't push back all the way, and the brake indication switch isn't engaged.
The other possibilities are that the float in the master brake cylinder is stuck (if it has one), or the level sensor has failed.

What is the make, model and year?

First check your manual, it looks like a brake symbol, but I am not sure.
The best thing ask the dealer, they should not charge for this.

This symbol shines as a red or orange light depending on the severity of the discovered fault.
Red symbol - Stop the car as soon as possible in a suitable location and read the message shown in the text window.
Orange symbol - Follow the instructions shown in the text window.

if its on when the brake isn't being depressed its a tail light bulb has blown out, if its on when you apply the brakes , its a brake light bulb

it is probly time for it to be serviced

You have a Rear Brake or Driving light is Out, Replace the Bulb.. Or check the wiring at the rear, at the lights.

1998 volvo s40 right hand drive: there is an orange triangle light with green in the center and an upside "y" in the center of the two. It is between the "up orange arrow" and "a an orange car with an X on it" the light comes and stays on. Dont know what it means. can you help. Thanks
