Every time I insert the tape, the screen says "Reinsert the tape" as an error message. It is loading the tape fine, but when the camcorder is turned on, it just flashes that message. We'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks, Ken
I can't believe it. I tried hitting the camcorder on the battery side, directly on the battery with the palm of my hand and it worked for about 5 seconds. THEN I hit it against a wood table on the battery side and it is now working. I guess my first hit with the palm was not hard enough.

Yes I have the same problem with mine it happened a few days ago, I'm pretty sure it's moisture condensation, but when this happend to me before, it came back within hours. This time it didn't. So I think I might take it to a shop to get it repaired because it's still under warranty

I thought it was crazy too, but I fixed the problem by hitting the battery side of the camcorder with the palm of my hand. I'm going to by a new camera as soon as I can dump all my tapes from this one, but heah... at least it's working again.
Word.

I have had the same problem. Every time I turn the camera, it immediately beeps and displays Reinsert The Tape. I searched the Internet and found that everyone who has had this problem solved it by hitting the battery side of the camcorder with the palm of your hand. I thought this was crazy. But it's not. It worked for me. I had to smack it twice and I turned it back on and it's working!!!!

Hi,
In DCRTRV430 Camcorder, the C:31:42 error message is a Self diagnostic display. This message can be clearly identified by the help of a Sony Authorized service technician. Each of these codes indicates the symptoms and resolutions of the Camcorder. In C:31:42, the issue is with the tape and the tape mechanism.
I suggest that you remove and reinsert the tape to check if it helps. You may also try inserting new tapes in the Camcorder. Please remove the battery and/or power cable, connect, and perform operations from the beginning. You may also try resetting the Camcorder back to factory default after removing the tape.
To Reset the Camcorder, perform the steps below:
? Please open the LCD screen to locate the RESET button.
? To reset the Camcorder, press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.
? Please make sure that the Camcorder is turned on while pressing the reset button.
Also, try turning off the Camcorder and remove the battery pack. Then move the 'Power Switch' of the Camcorder to the ON position
for 1 minute. After about 1 minute, move the 'Power Switch' to the OFF position.
Now reinsert the battery, turn on the Camcorder and check whether it is working fine.
Thanks.

same problem
it gives a message of reinsert tape
Same problem. I've done a google search and a LOT of us with Sony recorders have the same problems. Different users, different models, but same problems, and simular error code displayed.
The smack it has often worked. But that is more like curing a symptom, and not the cause. But hey, as long as it works I suppose.
Can't believe it. Same "reinsert cassette" message. I whacked the camcorder on it's side a couple times and now it works.
Every time I insert the tape, the screen says "Reinsert the cassette"
the whack is clearly NOT working for me... HELP! any other suggestions!?
