Please read the solution that resolved this problem for may others. Most likely, you have already tried this. However, the antenna of your Nuvi 300 is the same as the entire 3xx & 6xx Nuvi series. I know this because I have worked on them.

If the above procedure does not work for you, the entire antenna assembly will need to be replaced.
The other option is to purchase an external antenna for your Nuvi and plug it into the external antenna port (gold connector) on the Nuvi antenna assembly.

Best wishes,
- Jim

Will not aquire satellites

This is a common problem on the Nuvi 3xx and 6xx series and is caused by a failed component. Please see this link for troubleshooting information.

My garmin nuvi 1300 will not aquire satellites

This seems to happen quite often with GPS units. There are a few things that could cause this to happen. Is the GPS mounted in view of the sky? If not it may not be able to acquire the satellites. If this is not the problem, try performing a reset by pressing the top left corner of the screen while pressing the power button. These two things will usually help, but in the case that they don't, contact their support at 1-800-800-1020 and they should be able to assist you.

I have a nuvi 200w. My firmware updates and then I cannot aquire satillites. Do you have a solution?

It sometimes takes several minutes to acquire satellite signal afterward.
Make sure you have clear visibility of sky away from tall buildings.
If that fails try reloading software again, go to garmin and download web updater.
1 option in this is to reload all software again.

GPS was working fine. Stopped and turned off car....

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

My garmin nuvi 350

I have the same problem and tried updating firmware but that didn't seem to help. I tried factory resets and other "fixes" then I read another article on fixya http://www.fixya.com/support/t1100930-nuvi_360_cannot_acquire_sattelite

I followed the advice to put a wire into the external antenna receiver.
I used some torn apart cat 5 ethernet.
By inserting the wire into the middle it started finding satellites.
At this point that seemed to wake my nuvi up and it doesn't need the wire anymore.
