Whenever I turn the power switch to camera mode or video mode the camera stays on the playback mode. A technician in India diagnosed it as a worn out switch (carbon) that needs to be replaced(back panel) and it would cost me around $80 dollars. I called olympus in US and they are charging $175 fixed cost for any repairs. Does anyone have any other suggestion ? Uday
Sorry I am not able to suggest a solution. But I tried to take off the back cover. But not coming off after removing all the screws. Have you been able to solve the problem ?

Hi Uday, As u described, I think that it is compulsary to replace the whole switching assy. please dont compare the rate, because component quality in US better than in Asia. this is the reason it costs too much. I suggest to go to Olympus shop for genuine repairs. good luck .....

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

hi rafiq,
thanks for your response. I was wondering if the part is due to wear and tear then shouldnt it last more than two years specially for $500 worth of camera ? I called olympus to see if they would stand by their product and replace the worn out switch. Ofcourse the answer was NOpe. Rgding the part in Asia, it was coming from an olympus repair center and I hope it should be genuine part.
It justs doesnt seem right for a switch to cost so much and a fix should be so hard to do. Wish there was a way to use a third party solution etc. A new olympus would cost me $200 in the US (without the metal body ofcourse), but this time no olympus for me.
Uday
