Cannot align cartridges into middle of carriage to replace the No.5 cartridge

1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on. Press the On button to turn on the HP All-in-One. The On button is lit when the HP All-in-One is on.Figure 1: Press the On button to turn the product on1 - On buttonCAUTION:If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print-carriage access door to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them.
2. Open the print-carriage access door by pulling it forward. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.Figure 2: Open the access door
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it.Figure 3: The print carriage
   • If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left.
   • If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

4. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.

Step two: Install the new print cartridgeBack to top

1. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.Figure 5: Remove the tape1 - Copper-colored contacts2 - Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)3 - Ink nozzles under tapeCAUTION:Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. 2. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.
   • If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
   • If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.

Step three: Align the print cartridgesThe HP All-in-One prompts you to align cartridges every time you install or replace a print cartridge. Use the following steps to align the print cartridges from the control panel.

1. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray, and then press OK .
2. The HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment sheet.NOTE:If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.
3. Lift the lid. Place the top of the alignment page face down in the left front corner of the scanner glass. Close the lid.Figure 8: Load the alignment sheet on the glass
4. Press OK to begin the alignment.
5. The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet.

5. Close the latches, and then close the cartridge access door. Figure 8: Close latch The control panel displays a message prompting you to align the cartridges.
6. Press the Enter button to start the cartridge alignment. Wait until the alignment completes before continuing.

HP PSC 2175 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1. Turn on the unit, then open the print-carriage access door by lifting the
handle until the door locks into place. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.

2. After the carriage stops moving, lift the latch to release the print cartridge, then pull it toward you out of its slot.

3. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge, store it in the print cartridge protector.

4. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape.

Caution! Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.

5. Push the new print cartridge into the appropriate slot until it clicks into place. The tri-color print cartridge goes on the left and the black or photo print cartridge goes on the right.

6. Pull the end of the latch toward you, press down until it stops, and then release. Make sure the latch catches below the bottom tabs.

7. Close the print-carriage access door.

The HP PSC prompts you to align cartridges every time you install or replace a print cartridge.

Aligning the cartridges ensures high-quality output.

To align the print cartridges when prompted:
1. Press Enter on the front panel. A page of patterns is printed. The cartridges are aligned correctly. Recycle or discard the page.

To align the cartridges at any other time:
1. Press Setup.
2. Press 2, then press 2.
This selects Maintenance, and then selects Align Print Cartridges.

4. With the copper-colored contacts facing into the carriage, insert the cartridge into the carriage at upward angle. Push the cartridge up, and then into the carriage until it snaps into place.    NOTE: If the cartridge moves loosely in the carriage, it has not clicked into place. Repeat this step.
5. Close the cartridge compartment cover, and then the control panel.

Step three: Align the cartridge

1. Press the Start button ( ) on the product control panel.
2. Press 1 to indicate you installed a new cartridge. The product prints an alignment page and 06 [01-11] displays on the control panel. Figure 7: Alignment page prints illustration of alignment page printing
3. Review the alignment page, and then select the number under the straightest line.
4. Press that number on the keypad, and then press the OK button ( ).

Turn on your printer and lift the access door. The print carriage will move to the center.

Once the print carriage has stopped moving, remove the empty cartridge by pushing down on it and pulling it towards you.

Remove the replacement cartridge from its packaging. Peel the pink tape away from the bottom while holding the cartridge by the sides.

Hold the replacement cartridge with the label on the top. Slide cartridge into the appropriate slot. Insert cartridge at a slight angle, then apply pressure until it snaps into place.

• Close the print carriage access door.
• Align the printer if it prompts you and if not just align it manually

Replacing the print cartridges

1. Turn on the power.
2. Lift the print carriage access door on the front of the unit, just above the output tray. The print carriage will move into the middle of the access area. Figure 1: Raising the front access door
3. Release the cartridge to be replaced by pressing down lightly on the top of the carriage latch and then pulling the lower section of the latch forward. Lift the latch.
4. Grasp the sides of the ink cartridge and pull the cartridge out to remove it. Figure 2: Removing the cartridge
5. Remove the replacement cartridge from its packaging. Touching only the black plastic, remove any tape covering the nozzles. Do not touch the gold-colored contacts. Figure 3: Removing the protective tape
6. Holding the cartridge with the printed label up, slide the cartridges, one at a time, into the print carriage as shown below. Insert the black print cartridge (HP 56) into the right side (with the gray latch) and the tri-color print cartridge (HP 57) into the left side (with the blue latch). To install the optional photo cartridge (HP 58) for six-ink photo printing, remove the black print cartridge (HP 56) and insert the photo cartridge (HP 58) instead. Figure 4: Inserting the cartridge
7. Latch the cartridge by pulling the lower section of the latch forward and pressing the latch down. When the latch is down, release the lower portion of the latch so that it catches under the tabs. Do not use force or damage might occur. Figure 5: Latching the ink cartridges in place

9. A message will appear in the front panel display requesting that the ink cartridges be aligned. Press Enter to start the cartridge alignment. Two pages will print. Following the instructions printed on the second page, place the first page on the scanner glass in the lower-right corner and then press Enter to finish aligning the cartridges. Remove the page from the scanner glass when complete.

Solution The product aligns the print cartridges every time that print cartridges are installed or replaced to ensure the highest-quality prints. The alignment page will continue to print every time that the product is turned on or off until the alignment process is completed. NOTE: If you remove and install the same print cartridge, the unit will NOT align the print cartridges. The unit remembers the alignment values for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the print cartridges. Follow the steps below, in the order presented, to correctly complete a print cartridge alignment. Step one: Remove the print cartridges

2. Make sure the paper tray is down and there is letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the paper tray.

   • If replacing the black print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

5. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.

Step two: Install the new print cartridge

1. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. 2. Slide the new print cartridge forward at a slight upward angle into the empty slot. Using your index finger, push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place. Figure 7: Insert the print cartridge
3. Close the access door.

Step three: Align the print cartridges If you are installing a new print cartridge, the product begins to print a print cartridge alignment sheet. This may take a few minutes.

1. Lift the lid of the product.
2. Place the top of alignment page face down in the left front corner of the glass. Figure 8: Place the alignment page face down
3. Close the lid.
4. Press the Scan button.
5. The On/Resume light will blink during the alignment process.
6. After the On/Resume light stops blinking, alignment is complete.

If possible, shut off the printer completely and manually move the ink carriage to where the cartridges can be swapped out. turn it back on and try again. try to see if some mechanism that holds the missing cartridge in place has swung down and is bumping into something, preventing the carriage from moving past a certain point.

Replacing the print cartridges

1. Turn on the HP Officejet, and lift open the print-carriage access door. The print carriage will move into the access area. Figure 1: Opening the print-carriage access door
2. After the carriage stops moving, push down on the top of the print cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you out of the slot. Figure 2: Removing the print cartridge NOTE: It is normal to see ink buildup in the print cartridge slots.
3. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging and gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles. 4. Push the new print cartridge into the appropriate slot at a slight angle, until it clicks into place. CAUTION: Do not attempt to push the cartridge straight into the slot. It must slide in at a slight angle. Figure 4: Inserting the print cartridge
5. Close the print-carriage access door.

Aligning the print cartridges The HP Officejet will prompt you to align the print cartridges every time you install a new print cartridge to assure high-quality output.

1. When the message displays, press OK . The HP Officejet will print an alignment page.
2. Place the alignment page face down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page facing the left side.
3. Press OK . The HP Officejet will align the print cartridges and display Alignment Complete .

Using a photo print cartridge To use the photo print cartridge, remove the black print cartridge and insert the photo print cartridge in its place.
The photo print cartridge can be purchased separately and will optimize the quality of printed photos.
With the tri-color print cartridge and photo print cartridge installed, you have a six-ink system, which provides enhanced quality photos. For printing regular text documents, use the black print cartridge.

Aligning the print cartridges After installing or replacing a print cartridge, the HP PSC will automatically print a cartridge alignment page.

1. Place the alignment page face down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page facing the left side.
   
2. Press Scan .
   The HP PSC will align the print cartridges. During the alignment the button LED will blink until the alignment is complete.
