Cannot align cartridges into middle of carriage to replace the No.5 cartridge

Cartridge No.5 ran out. Took it out and turned machine off while I went to get a new one. When machine was turned back on the rest of the cartridges will not return to the centre to allow the insertion of the new. I just keep getting a message saying Error Code 5100. It is a brand new machine and I am not very clued up on its workings so need some help please. Barbara-g

Hi You can Try
Ok it got to be cleaned
Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Ink cartridge doesnt any help

  1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on. Press the On button to turn on the HP All-in-One.   1. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray, and then press OK .
  2. The HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment sheet.note.pngNOTE:If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.

I have to get a letter typed and don't know how to open the machine to change the ink????

HP PSC 2175 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1. Turn on the unit, then open the print-carriage access door by lifting the
handle until the door locks into place. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.

2. After the carriage stops moving, lift the latch to release the print cartridge, then pull it toward you out of its slot.

3. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge, store it in the print cartridge protector.

4. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape.

Caution! Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.

5. Push the new print cartridge into the appropriate slot until it clicks into place. The tri-color print cartridge goes on the left and the black or photo print cartridge goes on the right.

6. Pull the end of the latch toward you, press down until it stops, and then release. Make sure the latch catches below the bottom tabs.

7. Close the print-carriage access door.

Aligning the cartridges ensures high-quality output.

To align the print cartridges when prompted:
1. Press Enter on the front panel. A page of patterns is printed. The cartridges are aligned correctly. Recycle or discard the page.

To align the cartridges at any other time:
1. Press Setup.
2. Press 2, then press 2.
This selects Maintenance, and then selects Align Print Cartridges.

I replaced new cartridge but show up 'insert cartridge' repeatly. i insert cartridge.but again again repeat show up 'insert cartridge' what is problem? please help me.

    NOTE: If the cartridge moves loosely in the carriage, it has not clicked into place. Repeat this step.

How do I change the cartridge

  • Turn on your printer and lift the access door. The print carriage will move to the center.


  • Once the print carriage has stopped moving, remove the empty cartridge by pushing down on it and pulling it towards you.
  • Remove the replacement cartridge from its packaging. Peel the pink tape away from the bottom while holding the cartridge by the sides.
  • Hold the replacement cartridge with the label on the top. Slide cartridge into the appropriate slot. Insert cartridge at a slight angle, then apply pressure until it snaps into place.
    • Close the print carriage access door.
    • Align the printer if it prompts you and if not just align it manually

    Replacing the print cartridges
    1. Turn on the power.
    2. Lift the print carriage access door on the front of the unit, just above the output tray. The print carriage will move into the middle of the access area. Figure 1: Raising the front access doorc00004385.jpg
    3. Release the cartridge to be replaced by pressing down lightly on the top of the carriage latch and then pulling the lower section of the latch forward. Lift the latch.

    6. Holding the cartridge with the printed label up, slide the cartridges, one at a time, into the print carriage as shown below. Insert the black print cartridge (HP 56) into the right side (with the gray latch) and the tri-color print cartridge (HP 57) into the left side (with the blue latch). To install the optional photo cartridge (HP 58) for six-ink photo printing, remove the black print cartridge (HP 56) and insert the photo cartridge (HP 58) instead.     7. Latch the cartridge by pulling the lower section of the latch forward and pressing the latch down.     9. A message will appear in the front panel display requesting that the ink cartridges be aligned. Press Enter to start the cartridge alignment. Two pages will print.     Ink cartridge carrier jam

    If possible, shut off the printer completely and manually move the ink carriage to where the cartridges can be swapped out. turn it back on and try again. try to see if some mechanism that holds the missing cartridge in place has swung down and is bumping into something, preventing the carriage from moving past a certain point.

    1. Place the alignment page face down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page facing the left side.
