I have a desktop PC and a laptop PC. I cannot access the internet with the laptop using the WRT54G router as we had an electrical outage last night.
Everything was fine before that. The message I am getting says that the settings that are saved to my computer do not match the settings on the router.
How do I go about getting these settings right?

Try this :
1. it seems that the power outrage had caused your wireless settings to be restored to its factory settings .... so there is a need to reconfigure it again ...
"the settings that are saved to my computer do not match" --- this usually pertains to the network settings saved on your laptop, if it is vista you must delete the old profile,it also applies for xp OS ....
VISTA :
>network and sharing center
> manage wireless connections
>under networks you can view or modify, highlight the old profile then remove
XP :
>netowrk connections
> right click on wireless network connection and go to properties
>click on wireless tab
>under preferred networks (box in the middle) highlight then remove
2. to check this do ipconfig on the cmd line
•check the default gateway if it is still 192.168.1.1 or 2.1 ( the default gateway is the rtr's address)
•open your browser, then type the rtrs ip
• leave the username blank, password is admin ( small caps)
• then you are in the set up page
• check the wireless tab, and very the ssid if it is still or the name of your network which you used to connect to ...
• just save the settings if you want to make changes
****** very impt : while doing this changes, your main pc or dsktop pc must be hardwired to the router ,, never make changes wirelessly coz the connection is very instable you will be kicked of everytime ..... ***********
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Is the laptop wireless?
Was it plugged into a surge protector during the outage?
Try :
1. deleting the network settings for the wireless connection in network settings of the control panel
2. readd the network connection.
Low or poor signal is mainly caused by the following major factors:
Going Around Physical Obstructions
Wireless
networks are also susceptible to obstructions that may lead to low
signal. Often, the signal gets reflected, refracted or absorbed by the
obstruction.
Common obstructions are:
If you have any of these objects between your wireless adapter and access point, consider relocating your access point somewhere high to get around the obstruction.
